The CW President Talks More RIVERDALE Spinoffs and Whether the Arrowverse Will End Anytime Soon

Right now, The CW’s biggest television shows are the ones based on comics. The Arrowverse consists of four live action shows – Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow – with a fifth show, Batwoman, expected to premiere next year. Meanwhile, DC’s Black Lightning has been a big hit, while Riverdale offers a new take on Archie Comics lore. Now, The CW has teased future plans for both franchises.

At the Television Critics Association tour this week, The CW president Mark Pedowitz talks about the shows’ futures. He teases that at least one other Riverdale spinoff could be in the works, but he’s waiting on showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s pitch. “In terms of spinoffs out of Riverdale, I’m waiting to hear what Roberto has in mind. He has something in mind.”

The CW was originally developing Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a spinoff/companion series, before the show moved to Netflix. While the two shows may exist in the same world, there are currently no crossover plans. There are no details on what this other spinoff could be about.

Pedowitz goes on to talk about the Arrowverse. He confirms that The CW has no plans to end any of the shows anytime soon. “Shows do eventually end, [but] we have no plans yet to end one or any of them. We’ll see where we come out as the season goes on.” This should come as a relief to DCTV fans, but also shouldn’t be surprising.

The Arrowverse has been a massive success for The CW, especially during the big crossover events. Even Arrow, which has been on a consistent decline in ratings for the past couple years, does well with streaming and remains an active topic of discussion online. With that and the writers’ plans for more seasons in mind, it doesn’t make sense for the network to cancel any of these shows in the foreseeable future. Besides, this is the same network that has aired Supernatural for 14 seasons and counting.

Stay tuned for more as we have it. Your favorite CW shows return this fall.
