AMC Plans to Expand THE WALKING DEAD Universe with Movies and More TV Shows

AMC’s cornerstone series, The Walking Dead, is getting ready enter its ninth season, which will say goodbye to lead man Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Meanwhile, spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead is nearing the end of its fourth season, with season five on the way. AMC has been vocal about continuing this franchise for at least the next decade, and now, we have word on how the network is planning to do that.

A new report by Bloomberg reveals that AMC is planning multiple new TV shows, as well as movies, set in The Walking Dead universe. The networks wants to have a partner (maybe a streaming service?) to create several movies that could spin off into new shows. At least one series will take place in another country. Scott Gimple, chief creative officer of the current two shows, will oversee development.

This move comes as AMC wants to continue pushing its biggest series, which has consistently ranked as one of the highest-rated shows and has spawned a hit talk show, Talking Dead. And that’s not counting Walker Stalker Con, mobile games, and the comics. So, the franchise won’t be going away anytime soon.

Stay tuned for more updates as we have them. The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, October 7th at 9 PM EST on AMC.
