FEATURE: Five More Marvel Studios Shows We Want to See on Disney Play

Recently, it was revealed that Marvel Studios is developing shows for Disney Play, the studio’s forthcoming streaming service. The shows will center around Loki, Scarlet Witch, and other popular supporting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They will bring back actors from the movies, but don’t expect major heroes like Iron Man or Captain America to show up.

Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The MCU has plenty of supporting characters who could be given the spotlight, and Disney Play is serving as a good avenue to do that. Below, we list five shows that we want to see.

Hawkeye
I’m going to get the most obvious one out of the way. Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton has always had the reputation of being “everyone’s least favorite Avenger.” With the main four getting their own movies and Black Widow on the way, Hawkeye is the only original Avenger without a solo project. Fortunately, they can remedy that with a Disney Play miniseries. Whether it’s an origin story or somewhere else in the MCU timeline (transition to Ronin perhaps?), a Hawkeye show would be very cool. And doing a show starring an original Avenger would surely be a selling point for Disney Play.
Korg & Miek
Korg (Taika Waititi) and his sidekick Miek were two fan-favorite characters to break out of Thor: Ragnarok. While fans are still waiting to hear of their fate after Avengers: Infinity War, Kevin Feige has confirmed that there are plans to bring them back in the future. Giving them their own series would be a neat way to do that. It’d be a fun space comedy that continues the MCU’s exploration of the cosmos. It can be a prequel to Ragnarok, or maybe it can show their escape in Infinity War. But long story short: We want more Korg and Miek.
Killmonger
Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger was one of the most widely praised parts of Black Panther. Everyone agreed that he is one of the MCU’s best villains to date, and he died too soon. While we likely won’t see Killmonger again in a movie, it’d make sense to do a prequel show. Explore his time as a black ops soldier and how he develops his views on Wakanda. Killmonger was a truly fascinating character, and this would be a good way of using him further without undoing his death.
Goliath
Ant-Man and The Wasp introduced Laurence Fishburne’s Bill Foster, who worked on Project Goliath with Hank Pym back in the day. Foster ended up playing a small supporting role in the movie, but the character has plenty of potential moving forward. Maybe do a prequel series that shows a young Foster becoming the superhero Goliath. Or have it set in the present day and show him returning to the suit. Hopefully, Marvel will utilize Laurence Fishburne’s talents to their full potential and give him the spotlight.
Okoye/Dora Milaje
The Dora Milaje is an all-female team of special forces in Wakanda, dedicated solely to protecting the king. Leading the team is Okoye (Danai Gurira), who emerged as one of several breakout characters from Black Panther. With that film being such a major success, Marvel will surely beef up this franchise as much as possible. We mentioned Killmonger already, but how about giving the Dora Milaje their own spinoff show? It would give Okoye more to do in the MCU, and it’s a perfect opportunity to shine the spotlight on women of color. The Dora Milaje will most likely play key roles in the Black Panther sequel(s), but giving them a starring role in their own series would be great.
Honorable Mentions: Quicksilver, Grandmaster, Nebula, Howard the Duck, Winter Soldier
