Marvel Shows Starring Loki, Scarlet Witch and More in Development at Disney Play

Disney has been making some big moves for its streaming service, now titled Disney Play. A live action Star Wars show is in the works, while the platform is bringing back The Clone Wars for another season. Now, we know about Disney Play’s plans for Marvel, and they’re pretty big.

According to Variety, Marvel Studios is developing a slate of limited series starring popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki and Scarlet Witch are among the characters who will get their own shows. These will also bring back the original actors, so Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise their roles. Each series will run for 6-8 episodes, while they are expected to have big budgets.

Marvel has been expanding the MCU on television before, with shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix slate. But while those shows fall under Jeph Loeb’s Marvel TV banner, the Disney Play shows will be directly developed by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. Also, these shows will focus entirely on supporting heroes in the MCU, so don’t expect someone like Iron Man to appear.

Disney Play is expected to launch in late 2019. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
