TV News Bits: DC with a Touch of Marvel

Welcome back to the latest round of TV News Bits. This installment is mostly DC-centric, but we have a good update for a hit Marvel Netflix series too.

  • HBO’s Watchmen series has recruited Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to compose the score. The two have worked together for a few years now, including their collaborations with director David Fincher. They are the current members of the rock band Nine Inch Nails, which was founded by Reznor. Watchmen will premiere sometime next year on HBO. (Source: Variety)
  • In a new interview, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb shares a lot of updates, including the future of The Defenders. Despite being pitched as a one-off and a second season unconfirmed, Loeb says it’s not completely off the table. “It doesn’t mean that it’s off the table. And it doesn’t mean that it even has to be with the original characters that were in the first Defenders.” So, the story of the original Defenders is done, but the door is open to create a new lineup under the same name. • Actress Katherine McNamara is lining up her first big gig after Shadowhunters, and she’ll be heading to the Arrowverse. McNamara has joined the cast of Arrow as Maya, a scrappy street fighter and thief compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This will be a “pivotal” recurring role for the first half of the season. Arrow returns on Monday, October 15th at 8 PM EST on The CW. (Source: TV Line)
  • In other DC TV casting, we have a new addition to Black Lightning. Major Crimes actress Kearran Giovanni has landed a recurring role for the show’s second season. She will play Cutter, a British Intelligence-trained mercenary who is “more than able” to defeat a man in combat. Black Lightning returns on Tuesday, October 9th at 9 PM EST on The CW. • Legends of Tomorrow will be diving more into fantasy and supernatural lore this season, and its latest casting addition is a further indication. Darrien Martin (The 100) is playing an unnamed wolf creature, who will have a recurring role. The character may reportedly return for the show’s fifth season, if it happens. Legends of Tomorrow returns on Monday, October 22nd at 9 PM EST on The CW. (Source: Comic Book)
