VENOM Retains October Opening Record Despite HALLOWEEN’s Arrival

Sony’s Venom set a new record for October opening weekends, grossing over $80 million in its debut. However, many have wondered if that record would be broken by this week’s new release, Halloween. Well, Michael Myer’s return has brought in all the money, but not quite enough to break the record.

Halloween opened with an estimated $77.5 million this weekend. This is the second biggest October opening in history, behind only Venom. Meanwhile, the comic book movie fell down to 3rd place this week, grossing an estimated $18.1 million, after being at the top spot for two straight weeks. Its domestic total is now $171.1 million. Overseas, Venom took in an additional $32.3 million, bringing its international total to $290.7 million. Its worldwide tally is now at $461.8 million.

This is good news for both movies, which are turning in big profits. Venom was produced for $100 million, while Halloween had a mere $10 million budget. This, along with A Star Is Born‘s breakout success, are driving this October towards unprecedented box office numbers.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
