Behind The Scenes on BLOODSHOT: Updates, Nerd Bosses, and a Sweet First Look

We’re just over a year away from Vailant Comics’ first silver screen adaptation: Bloodshot. Staring Vin Diesel and a whole host of other people, Bloodshot focuses on a memory wiped supersoldier and the secretive organization who spawned him. The 2020 film, written by Eric Heisserer and directed by Dave Wilson, is highly anticipated by yours truly. So it’s with great delight that the man, the myth, the legend, Dinesh Shamdasani, has been dropping all manner of juicy news bits on the project the last few weeks.

On September 8th, Shamdasani teased his eminent arrival in Cape Town.

By October 3rd, the tidbits were finally beginning to trickle.

And from the looks of things, Dinesh has made this set a great place to be a Nerd Boss.

Dinesh also teased the work by Weta Workshop on the film….

And one of the single coolest things to come out of the shoot was the recent set visit from comic legends Bob Layton and Kevin VanHook.

Speaking with Deadline about the trip, Layton said “people have been trying to convince Valiant to adapt Bloodshot for years, since the 1990s. Our opinion then, and I know this held true for [producer and former Valiant principal] Dinesh Shamdasani and the team that brought Valiant back as well, was a Bloodshot film shouldn’t be made unless it would be a top-notch, high-quality adaptation of the material. So, to your question, it wasn’t until Vin Diesel and Neal Moritz came on board that we knew that we had a team capable of doing justice to the character. It’s the opposite of concerning – it’s a great thing and definitely a coup for Valiant’s first feature. Dinesh involved me, early on, in the development process as a co-founder of the Valiant Universe. And I’ve seen firsthand just how closely he and Valiant shepherded this film along the way. This is the film we’ve always wanted to make and there’s a great team involved in every facet. This film has director Dave Wilson; Eric Heisserer, who wrote the script; and a stellar cast alongside Vin Diesel. That’s making all of this happen.”

Lastly, we have our very first look at the character courtesy of Reach Out WorldWide (ROWW), a charity founded by the late Paul Walker. Vin Diesel and the cast signed multiple items for the charity auction, including an exclusive Vin Diesel varient cover of Bloodshot Salvation #12, illustrated by artist Lewis LaRosa.

While promoting the charity auction, Diesel spoke with ComicBook.com about why this film appealed to him, saying “….there’s something interesting about how the character doesn’t abandon his humanity. It’s not heightened reality, it’s based in reality. It deals with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder. The script was one of the most interesting scripts I’ve ever read. It plays with your mind in a way you can’t…that you don’t normally see in movies. It’s so complex. It’s so well written and so well developed.”

Bloodshot is scheduled to hit theaters on February 21st, 2020. For all things Bloodshot and Valiant, keep it here at WOBAM! Entertainment and keep the conversation going @WOBAMEnt!
