DAREDEVIL Has Been Cancelled by Netflix

Netflix’s severance of its relationship with Marvel continues. After cancelling Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the streaming platform has now ended its original Marvel series.

Daredevil has been cancelled after a three-season run. The show premiered its critically acclaimed third season just last month, and fans have been anxious for a fourth season. Unfortunately, that isn’t happening…at least on Netflix.

Netflix released the following statement on the news. “Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”

This move comes as a result of Netflix’s strained relationship with Marvel TV. This can be attributed to budget concerns, while Netflix has been pressuring Marvel to resort to 10-episode seasons instead of the usual 13. Additionally, Disney has been prepping for its own Disney+ streaming service, which will feature Marvel content. As a result, Marvel hasn’t been producing any original content for Netflix outside of the pre-existing shows, but even those are going away now.

Daredevil‘s cancellation now leaves two Marvel shows on Netflix: Jessica Jones and The Punisher. The shows will return for their third and second seasons, respectively, sometime in 2019. But at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if those shows get cancelled too.

There’s always a chance that Marvel could bring the shows back on another network, or maybe the characters could even join the movies. But as of right now, the Man Without Fear is dead.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
