SUPERGIRL Casts Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor for Season 4

Last month, it was announced that Lex Luthor is finally making his Arrowverse debut on Supergirl later this season. Now, the character has been cast, and the actor has quite the role in Luthor history.

It has been announced that Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) is set to play Lex Luthor. He will first appear on Supergirl in episode 15 of this season, and from there, he will be a recurring character. Funnily enough, Cryer previously played Lenny Luthor – aka Lex’s nephew – in 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. And now, he has ascended to the role of Lex himself.

Producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller gave the following statement on Cryer’s casting. “We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor. Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Lex Luthor has been portrayed countless times in live action, including nearly every Superman movie. Most recently, Michael Rosenbaum played him on Smallville, while Jesse Eisenberg played him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
