Box Office Updates: Aquaman and Deadpool Go Into the Spider-Verse
Two superhero movies took on the domestic box office this week, while another continues its reign overseas and in preview screenings. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened with $35.4 million this weekend – a solid start for the universally acclaimed animated movie. The film took in another $21 million overseas, bringing its worldwide debut to $56.4 million. Into the Spider-Verse was produced with a $90 million budget (not counting marketing), so it should easily turn a profit, especially with strong word-of-mouth and holiday legs. Once Upon a Deadpool opened last week, and it has taken in nearly $4 million over five days. The film is a PG-13 recut for Deadpool 2,…

Review: AQUAMAN (2018)
“The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.” Warner Brothers You might remember when the reporters called the Aquaman footage they saw earlier as Indiana Jones meet Star Wars? Well, I can safely say now after watching it that I think their parable is pretty much a bullseye. It’s a thrilling ride in more than just one way. It’s action-packed, making you sit on the edge of your seat, while also…

Review: TIGER & BUNNY
In the world of Tiger and Bunny, you are only allowed to be a superhero if you get the most views, fandom points, as well as a sponsorship that sponsor you. In this story, we follow the hero Wild Tiger, an aging superhero that is close to losing his sponsor and therefore his job. One day, his heroic life changes when his employers forced him to get a crimefighting partner. This anime is what would happen if X-Men and The Boys had a lovechild (although not as graphic or violent). It tackles the question of what’s right and what’s wrong, self-identity and all that jazz, and every answer they have…

Batman Under The Red Hood
Chaos arises for Batman when a mysterious Red Hood is busting into Gotham. Someone that ends up being a harder opponent then he expected. If there is one storyline that I keep hearing Batman fans wants a cinematic movie adaptation, it’s Under The Red Hood. After rewatching it for I don’t know how long, I understand the hope for it. It’s a personal story, and stories like those (at least in my opinion) is when Batman shines the most. Just look at Mask of Phantasm which is another fan favorite. A personal story to its core which is what makes people so attached to it. While Under the Red Hood…

Review: SPIDER-MAN: Miles Morales Vol 1
Spider-Man: Miles Morales vol 1 is basically a day in the life of Spider-Man. He’s a teenager who got bitten by a radioactive spider, giving him amazing abilities. With these abilities, Miles has become an Avenger and fights crime all while dealing with standard kids stuff. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Sara Pichelli, Spider-Man is a new take on a classic Marvel character. Is it worth your time or should you move on to the next Spider-Man? Let’s discuss.

Review: AQUAMAN Rebirth Vol. 1: The Drowning
Back in 2016, DC Comics relaunched several ongoing series as part of its Rebirth initiative. Among these was a new Aquaman run by Dan Abnett, Brad Walker, Phillipe Briones, and Scot Eaton. The comic comes on the heels of Geoff Johns’ acclaimed New 52 run, which has popularized the character and made him a force to be reckoned with. (Still think Aquaman is a joke? Read any comic by Geoff Johns ever.) Vol. 1 of the Rebirth run, titled “The Drowning,” sees Arthur Curry and Mera working to repair the public image of Atlantis. Many on the surface world fear Atlantis and its people, so Arthur seeks to present his…

Next Year’s Arrowverse Crossover Will Adapt CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS
The CW wrapped up its “Elseworlds” crossover event last night, concluding an insane story that sees The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl join forces. Without spoiling anything, the event lays the groundwork for next year’s crossover, and now, we know what it will be called. This is the big one, guys. Next fall, The CW will air the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” based on the comic of the same name. “Crisis” is one of the biggest DC events in history, popularizing the concept of major crossover events in comics. It pits DC’s heroes against the fearsome Anti-Monitor, who seeks to destroy the Multiverse. The story is known for iconic…

Review: THE INCREDIBLES
In this movie, we follow the Parr’s, a family of five where everyone has superpowers. Both Bob (Craig T. Nelson) and Helen Parr (Holy Hunter) are former superheroes that have now retired their heroic lifestyle. However, one day, their life changes when Bob aka Mr. Incredible gets a mysterious job offer. As someone that doesn’t have the same nostalgic connection to this movie, this was an interesting rewatch. How does it stand today, 14 years after it’s release? While it shows in its script that it was something that was created and released in the early 2000’s, with the animation quality a bit dated, it’s still a good movie. However, I…

Scott Derrickson Finalizes Deal to Direct DOCTOR STRANGE Sequel
Despite the success of 2016’s Doctor Strange, Marvel has been slow to give any details on a potential sequel, except that it is happening. Since then, Strange has become a recurring character in the MCU, including a show-stealing role in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, the Sorcerer Supreme’s next film is moving forward. Director Scott Derrickson has finalized a deal to return for the Doctor Strange sequel. A writer is currently being sought. Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong are attached to reprise their roles as Stephen Strange and Wong, respectively. Rachel McAdams, who played Christine Palmer in the first movie, will likely return as well. Right now, the plan is for…
