DC Films’ Aquaman has been a tidal wave on the box office, setting plenty of new records for the franchise. Today, the movie has met a goal that very few movies in history have achieved.

This weekend, Aquaman has passed the coveted $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. It is currently at $287.9 million in North America and $732.4 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $1.02 billion.

Aquaman is the first DC Films title to reach this milestone, and it is only behind The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion) as the highest grossing DC movie in history. Other superhero movies that have made more than a billion include Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and all of the Avengers movies. But what makes Aquaman and Black Panther stand out is that they are not sequels or big superhero ensembles. They are simply solo superhero titles that resonated with audiences worldwide.

Director James Wan addressed the news on Twitter, praising the film’s crew and star Jason Momoa.
