BLACK PANTHER Lands Several Oscar Nominations, Including Best Picture

The Academy announced its nominees for the 91st Oscars ceremony this morning. Fans have had their eyes on Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, which has been receiving plenty of awards buzz. Now, the film has received multiple nominations, making history in the process.

Black Panther is among the eight films nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. It is the first superhero movie in history to be nominated for this award. The genre has tried and failed for years to break into the ceremony. Most notably, movies like The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, and Logan were snubbed, despite much awards buzz. However, Black Panther has now broken the barrier.

Additionally, Black Panther has also been nominated in six other categories:

  • Costume Design
  • Original Score
  • Original Song (“All the Stars”)
  • Production Design
  • Sound Editing
  • Sound Mixing

Now, onto other movies. Both Incredibles 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are up for Best Animated Feature Film. Marvel’s other big 2018 movie, Avengers: Infinity War, is nominated for Best Visual Effects, alongside Solo: A Star Wars Story. Overall, a big year for geek products at the Oscars.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
