VENOM Sequel Moving Forward with Screenwriter

Despite negative reviews from critics and mixed reception from fans, Sony’s Venom was a big hit at the box office, grossing over $855 million worldwide on a $100 million budget. This secured the studio’s plans for a franchise, along with its Universe of Marvel Characters. Now, the sequel is officially moving forward.

Screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who worked on the first film, will return to pen Venom 2. Tom Hardy will return as the titular antihero, while Michelle Williams’ Anne Weying will be back. Additionally, Woody Harrelson, who debuted as Cletus Kasady in Venom‘s mid-credits scene, will take a bigger role in the sequel.

One person’s return is in doubt, however. While Ruben Fleischer directed the first Venom, he may sit out the sequel, due to scheduling conflicts on Zombieland 2. So, Sony may recruit a new director for Venom 2. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.

As for a release date, Sony did set a couple slots in 2020, including October. So, that one is probably Venom 2.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
