TV News Bits: Marvel TV, THE WALKING DEAD and Beyond

Welcome back to TV News Bits. Today, we have news on one of ABC’s Marvel projects, a premiere date for Cloak & Dagger season two, an update on FX’s Y: The Last Man adaptation, confirmation of more The Walking Dead, and casting for the next Riverdale spinoff.

ABC previously ordered a pilot for a female-led Marvel series, from Wonder Woman screenwriter Allan Heinberg. Unfortunately, the network has passed on the pilot. No details were given as to why, or whether it will be redeveloped at a later time. Plot details are under wraps, but the pilot was reportedly based on lesser-known Marvel characters. Despite this, ABC is still interested in launching another Marvel series, joining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will return for at least two more seasons. (Source: Deadline)

Meanwhile, ABC’s Freeform has a successful Marvel series in the form of Cloak & Dagger. The second season of the show will premiere on Thursday, April 4th at 8 PM EST. The new season will continue Tyrone and Tandy as they continue to become active heroes in the world. (Source: Deadline)

After years in development, Y: The Last Man is finally heading to live action. FX has ordered the Brian K. Vaughn adaptation to series, after ending Marvel series Legion. The series will star Barry Keoghan and Diane Lane, with Michael Green serving as showrunner. The series will premiere sometime in 2020. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)

To the surprise of no one, The Walking Dead is set to continue. AMC has officially renewed the show for season ten. The news comes days before the return of its ninth season. It also comes as the show is gearing for a major franchise expansion, which includes sister series Fear the Walking Dead and a trilogy of Rick Grimes-led movies. (Source: TV Line)

The CW is expanding the world of Riverdale with a new spinoff, Kathy Keene. The series will take place several years after Riverdale, but a familiar character will be there. Ashley Murray’s Josie McCoy will be a lead character on Kathy Keene. As a result, she will be leaving Riverdale. Kathy Keene does not have a premiere date yet. (Source: TV Line)
