Ezra Miller Writing His Own Script for THE FLASH; Could the Scarlet Speedster Be Recast?

DC FilmsThe Flash has taken an infamously long path in development hell. After multiple director changes, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley signed on to direct last year. Then we had productions delays due to scripting and Ezra Miller‘s schedule. The latest update takes the film into a…peculiar direction. However, it may be one that results in a new actor taking the title role.

Miller is now writing his own script for The Flash. Not only that, but he’s working on it with renown comic book writer Grant Morrison. Miller wants a darker take on the film, and he’s taking matters into his own hands to pursue that. Right now, Goldstein and Daley are pursuing a lighthearted story, in line with recent DC movies like Shazam! and Aquaman. Despite attempts to compromise, the directors and Miller have differences in creative direction.

The new script could be submitted as early as next week. If Warner Bros. decides against using it, Miller could end up leaving the film. Again, the studio has been leaning more towards lighter DC movies, so they could stick with Goldstein and Daley’s vision. Not to mention, Miller’s holding deal on the film expires in May.

So, while unconfirmed, there’s a chance that The Flash could speed on without Miller. The actor has been attached to the role since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He later reprised the role in Suicide Squad and Justice League. And if Miller leaves, this marks the latest actor shakeup at DC Films. Ben Affleck isn’t Batman anymore, Henry Cavill’s Superman future is in doubt, and there are seemingly no plans to bring back Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.

We should have more updates soon. For all things on The Flash, stay tuned.
