James Gunn Returns as Director for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Last summer, writer-director James Gunn was fired from Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The decision was made after the resurfacing of old tweets, which contained a lot of offensive jokes. Disney‘s decision was met with much criticism. In fact, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast released an open letter supporting Gunn. Since then, Gunn moved to DC, signing on to write and direct The Suicide Squad.

But now, Disney has reversed its decision. Gunn is set to return as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Why the change? Well, Disney chairman Alan Horn has met with Gunn multiple times after the firing, and he was impressed with the director’s apology and handling of the situation. As a result, Horn decided to bring him back. And apparently, the decision was made months ago.

Despite Gunn’s return to the MCU, he is still committed to directing The Suicide Squad. Marvel has agreed to let Gunn film the DC sequel, which will shoot beginning this fall. After that movie is done, Gunn will get to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So, as of right now, there is no conflict with Gunn doing two major comic book movies.

Do you agree with Disney’s decision to rehire Gunn, or should the film have moved on without him? Let us know in the comments below or on social media at @WOBAMEnt. And, as always, for all things on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, stay tuned.
