5 DLC Characters for SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE That We Want to See

5. Crash Bandicoot – Activision

I have never played any of the Crash Bandicoot games. So, why do I want him in Smash you ask? Well, with all other video game mascots already in the game, Crash is the one that is missing. Think about it, to see him duke it out against Sonic and Mario would be awesome.

4. Impa from The Legend of Zelda – Nintendo

The Legend of Zelda is a weird title when it comes to representation in Super Smash Bros. They have a good amount of stages and assist trophies in the game, but only six playable characters. And to make matters worse, three of those playable characters are a reincarnation of the main protagonist, which reduces the true count of options to four characters. I feel that this legendary franchise needs someone that can mix up their roster. If it were up to me, I would add Impa, specifically the Hyrule Warriors version as the base. With her giant sword, water and fire magic, she would make a phenomenal addition from The Legend of Zelda.

3. Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars – Nintendo/Square Enix

Raise hand if you are aware of who Geno is. One? Two? Okay. For those that are unaware of who this character is, Geno is one of the main characters from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES. This game is the spiritual predecessor for the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi franchises. Even though I don’t have the same nostalgia as the majority of the fanbase (considering the game was never released on the SNES in Europe), I feel like the RPG branch of the Super Mario franchise should be represented in Super Smash Bros. and this wooden doll could be the perfect glass-canon representative, zooming around the battlefield.

2. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII – Square Enix

If there is anything that Super Smash Bros. is lacking in its roster, its villains. Though we were given the likes of Ridley and King K. Rool in this new edition of Smash, to say that only 5.3% of the entire roster represent villains is disappointing. Enter Sephiroth. Of all the iconic villains NOT yet in Smash, Sephiroth is the biggest name of them all. Also, most Final Fantasy music is phenomenal and we could definitely use some more (One-winged angel, please?). I can only imagine being able to reenact one of the greatest rivalries in video game history, as I slash Cloud off the stage.

Honorable Mention: Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses – Nintendo/Intelligent Systems

You know, if there is a franchise that has yet to get any proper love, then it’s Fire Emblem. They are in a similar stage like the Legend of Zelda franchise, but with less stages items and assist trophies. We need someone that breaks the trend. Another Corrin, or Robin so to speak, where the weapons is not just a sword. Byleth is great in swordplay, brawling and magic. If you ask me, Byleth should come with three legendary weapons. Maybe an axe, a spear and a bow. And don’t forget the dragon!

1. Akira Howard from Astral Chain – Nintendo/Platinum Games

Last year, Nintendo and Platinum Games introduced us to a new franchise called Astral Chain. In the game, you play as one of the new police cadets that fight against mysterious creatures called Chimeras, with the aid of a robotic solider called Legion. This game took me by surprise to the point that if it weren’t for the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain would have ended up as my favorite game of last year. Outside of Astral Chain being one of my favorite titles on the Nintendo Switch, another big reason I would like this character in Smash because of his move set potential. I think that if you combine Akira’s baton and legion switching, you can end up with the character that feels like a Shulk, Joker and Ice Climber hybrid. It would be epic.
