5 Characters We Want to See in SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Sequel

2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a massive success, earning universal acclaim and taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Since then, Sony has wasted no time in confirming plans for more movies. The sequel is set to hit theaters on October 7th, 2022, while a female-centric spinoff (starring Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman and Silk) is in the works.

These films will continue to expand the Spider-Verse with new characters. For example, the sequel is expected to feature the Spider-Man from the 1970s Japanese show. But with all the Spiders found in comics and other adaptations, the possibilities are endless. After all, anyone can wear the mask.

Below, we list five characters that we want to see in the Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

PS4 Spider-Man

Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 was a huge hit, becoming one of the most successful superhero video games of all time. The game provided an original story that pushed Peter Parker forward, while still staying rooted in why he’s such a great character. We saw a brief glimpse of the PS4 costume in Into the Spider-Verse, but for the sequel, we’d love to see the character himself make a full-fledged appearance.

The Spectacular Spider-Man

Spider-Man has been adapted to animation countless times. Most fans argue that either the 1990s series or 2008’s The Spectacular Spider-Man are the best versions. For this list, we are going with the latter. Spectacular Spider-Man ended with a big cliffhanger that never resolved, and there are no plans for any further seasons. So, bringing this world into the next Spider-Verse movie would help give it a sense of closure. Also, hearing Josh Keaton alongside other Spider-Actors is too good an opportunity to pass up.

Venom

Spider-Man has one of the best villains galleries in comic book history. We saw a few members in Into the Spider-Verse, and we should expect more in the sequel. The most obvious choice for the next inclusion is Venom. The character has had a surge in popularity lately, thanks to the 2018 movie and Marvel’s current comic run. Bringing in a version of Venom into the next Spider-Verse is a no-brainer. They can even try to bring in Tom Hardy to increase the crossover appeal.

The Superior Spider-Man

There has been countless versions of Spidey within the comic book Spider-Verse, but this is a more recent addition. Here, Otto Octavius’ mind is transferred from his own body into Peter Parker’s, establishing a new status quo for a while. While polarizing, this is a unique portrayal of Spidey that can stand out in an Into the Spider-Verse sequel. Plus, seeing that suit in animation would look very cool.

Every Cinematic Spider-Man

We’re kind of cheating with this one, but it’s worth it. Fans have wanted to see the three live action movie versions of Spidey – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland – crossover for a while. There was even an idea to have them cameo in Into the Spider-Verse, but it didn’t pan out. Still, this is an amazing opportunity that the sequel can’t pass up. And if we’re never going to see these actors together in live action, then animation is the next best thing.
