The 10 Best Songs from HAMILTON

Hamilton hits Disney+ this weekend, and millions will be watching the show for the first time. The Broadway production has been around for five years and produced some fantastic songs. Today, we’re going to rank the Top 10 Songs of Hamilton.

10. Yorktown (The World Turned Upsidedown)

We only have one shot to live another day. – Alexander

The Seige of Yorktown is a massive moment in our nation’s history. In this showstopping number, we see just how that battle went down. The music is incredible and creates a feeling of action and excitement. Hercules Mulligan’s rap is easily the best part, but the whole number feels like a grand finale. The immigrants got the job done.

9. Alexander Hamilton

A Broadway production lives and dies on its opening number. Thankfully Alexander Hamilton is as good as it gets. We hear the story of Alex’s childhood from the ensemble cast. You feel as if you know everything you need to before the show officially starts. It’s chilling when you hear the line: “And Me, I’m the damn fool who shot him.” One of the most memorable moments from the entire show.

8. Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story

Hamilton’s final song is full of so much emotion. Phillipa Soo delivers an excellent performance as Eliza Hamilton, and it serves as the culmination of the entire play. You feel a sense of joy and yet you also feel grief. It’s bittersweet, but that’s the life of Alexander Hamilton.

7. The Room Where It Happens

No one really knows how the game is played… – Aaron Burr

Two Virginians and an immigrant walk into a room, diametrically opposed, foes. Leslie Odom delivers an incredible number regarding a meeting we know nothing about. It’s insanely creative and pretty catchy. Plus is feature Daveed Diggs as Thomas Jefferson, one of the best parts of Act II.

6. Satisfied

I will never be satisfied. – Angelica Schuyler

Renee Elise Goldsberry’s song is brutal. Angelica loves Alexander, but she puts her sister’s needs above her own. She lets Eliza marry Alexander while she is alone. The song by itself is terrific, but the emotional weight elevates it, and Goldsberry kills it.

5. You’ll Be Back

I will kill your friends and family, to remind you of my love! – King George III

I love a good villain song, and You’ll Be Back has to be one of the best. It’s upbeat, cheery, and sinister all at the same time. Jonathan Groff isn’t in the show for longer than 10 minutes, but he makes a lasting impression.

4. Wait For It

Death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. – Aaron Burr

The song that humanized Aaron Burr. Wait for it shows us Burr’s mentality and why he is the person we meet in Aaron Burr, Sir. The music is solid, the lyrics are powerful, and it’s one of the few songs that can stand on its outside of the musical.

3. The Schuyler Sisters

Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. – Eliza

Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy burst onto the scene is this incredible R&B song. The three-part harmony and music create an amazing song. Destiny ‘s Child vibes are felt from beginning to end, and It never gets old, and I’ve already heard it a hundred times.

2. Non-Stop

How do you write like you’re running out of time? – Aaron Burr

The finale of the first act is a perfect ending. We catch up with the entire after the Battle of Yorktown and see where they are before the break. It incorporates the riffs and motifs from the previous songs in the show and perfectly blends them. If you needed one song that screams Hamilton, this is it.

1. My Shot

I will lay down my life if it sets us free. Eventually, you’ll see my ascendancy. – Alexander

My shot is iconic. It’s not just a song; it’s a mentality. This song’s DNA bleeds into the entire production. It’s not only who Hamilton is but Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. This anthem is moving, catchy, relevant, and will go down as a classic.

Honorable Mentions

What’d I Miss? – A great opening number for Act II and one of my favorites. I barely missed the cut.

Cabinet Battle #1 – One of the most entertaining songs of the show. However, it missed out because the others were more impactful.

Guns and Ships – Love it but simply too short.
