Our 5 Favorite Moments from DC Fandome 2020 (Part 1)

DC Entertainment tried something new this year. Instead of the usual San Diego Comic-Con panels or out-of-nowhere announcements, the studio held a digital convention for its projects. Dubbed “DC Fandome,” the convention puts the spotlight on upcoming films, television shows, video games, and more. In fact, it was so big, DC decided to split it into two parts. Part 1 took place this past Saturday, while Part 2 will take place on September 12th.

Part 1 was a huge success, showing off first looks at upcoming movies and revealing new video games. Fans have been raving about the reveals, trailers, and more since then. Most notably, on the film/TV side, DC is committing to the Multiverse approach, where everything you see is all connected via multiple Earths. We’ll talk a little more about that later.

For now, here are our top five moments from Part 1 of DC Fandome.

#5: The Flash Gets a New Suit and Teams Up with Batman

The panel for The Flash movie (2022) was short, but it packed a punch. Star Ezra Miller and director Andy Muschietti, among others, were on hand to tease the film. They reaffirmed that, while it’s focused very much on Barry Allen, the movie will open the doors for the Multiverse. This follows Miller’s cameo on The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. Most notably, we saw first concept art, which reveal Flash’s new suit and him fighting alongside Michael Keaton’s Batman. This, along with confirmation that Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Batman too, has fans talking nonstop.

#4: New Look at Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 is DC’s next film, so it’s no surprise that it got a big push at the Fandome. The cast and director Patty Jenkins were on hand to tease Diana Prince’s next adventure, which takes place in, well, 1984. The new trailer was released, teasing dazzling action and another heartfelt story. Most significantly, it gave fans a first look at Kristen Wiig fully transformed as the villainous Cheetah. Right now, Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for an October 2nd release. However, with the worldwide pandemic going on, everything is subject to change.

#3: The Suicide Squad Reigns – In Film and Gaming

Task Force X has been on a roll since the 2016 movie. At DC Fandome, the team was the center of not one, but two upcoming projects. First, director James Gunn gave a first look at 2021’s The Suicide Squad, featuring an all-star cast. There, they confirmed the movie’s characters and released a behind-the-scenes reel. Meanwhile, on the gaming front, Rocksteady revealed its next project, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2022), for next-gen consoles. Both projects look like a lot of fun, and fans can’t wait to see the Squad on screen (big and small).

#2: Zack Snyder’s Justice League is Served

One of the biggest news stories of 2020 on the DC front was confirmation that the “Snyder Cut” of Justice League is, in fact, coming. Zack Snyder’s version of the 2017 movie, as originally intended, will be released on HBO Max next year. The filmmaker took to DC Fandome to discuss the project, which he confirms will be released in four 1-hour parts, and release a trailer. The sneak peek, set to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” puts Snyder’s trademark visuals on display. It also teases Darkseid, black suit Superman, and more. Simply put, fans are hyped that Snyder’s original vision is finally coming to fruition.

#1: The Batman is Here

And finally, DC’s biggest character stole all the headlines again. Director Matt Reeves gave fans a first look at next year’s The Batman, which is now confirmed to be in its own world and not part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Reeves released a first trailer, which teases the film’s dark tone and noir aesthetic. Set to Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” the trailer started trending immediately. Fans are especially freaking out about Batman’s brutal beatdown of a thug, before saying “I’m vengeance.” Simply put, Robert Pattinson looks to be a perfect choice for the Dark Knight.
