SUPERGIRL’s Future is Uncertain; Will the Show Move to The CW for Season 2?

While most television shows, including DC Entertainment’s, have been renewed for the 2016-2017 season, Supergirl has not. The show concluded its first season a few weeks ago, and CBS has confirmed nothing about a renewal. Now, we know why this is the case, and the show’s future is far from certain.

According to The Wrap, CBS’s Leslie Moonves is in talks with Warner Bros. Television about the future of Supergirl. The network would like to renew the show, but the ratings that the first season received don’t seem to justify paying $3 million per episode. Back when the series premiered in October, 13 million viewers tuned in. However, half of the audience dropped the show during the season.

One option that has been heavily rumored is Supergirl moving over to The CW, a network owned jointly by WB and CBS. The CW already has DC shows Arrow, The Flash, iZombie and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Heck, Supergirl already crossed over with The Flash this season. However, those involved with Supergirl say that this rumor is false…for now.

Supergirl would fit right in at The CW, except for one thing. Such a move would lead to extensive budget-per-episode cuts for the series, which could prove difficult for a CG-heavy series such as Supergirl.

CBS will announce its fall schedule at Upfronts 2016 in two weeks, so a decision for Supergirl has to be made soon. Stay tuned. Do you want Supergirl to return for a second season, or should CBS cancel the series?
