Hops and Box Office Flops: ‘THE ALAMO’
Remember It The Alamo, directed by John Lee Hancock, is a historical look at the tragic storming of the mission turned fort in 1836 Texas. Though the film boasts incredible sets, well shot historical action, and a wonderful ensemble, it was a box office dud. In fact, it is one of the biggest bombs in history, losing an estimated $146 million. That’s nearly 10 Louisiana Purchases. Critics didn’t help its prospects. Sitting at 29% on Rotten Tomatoes with 159 reviews, their consensus was unkind. We, unfortunately, have to agree. Outside of Billy Bob Thornton as Davy Crockett, 2004’s The Alamo is bereft of personality. It doesn’t help that the film is attempting…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 8×06- “Impulsive Excessive Disorder”
The Flash (08×06)- “Impulsive Excessive Disorder” Written by: Thomas Pound Directed by: David McWhirter We pick up with Nora and Bart pretty much where we left them last season. Talking with their parents after their vow renewal before they return to 2049. When they arrive, the timeline adjusts before their eyes and in walks Jay Garrick. It seems their actions fighting Godspeed have caused some changes. As they sit down with him for food they start asking questions and Nora becomes worried when Jay mentions his wife, Rose. She decides they have to fix things but I’m not so sure. The last Rose I saw than hung with a time…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 8×05- “Armageddon, Part 5”
The Flash (08×05)- “Armageddon, Part 5″ Written by: Kristen Kim Directed by: Menhaj Huda So we return to The West Home and more importantly Barry returns to find Joe alive and well (and wearing a hat inside which I don’t know why I fixated on that.) Barry gives Joe a very quick synopsis but before they can digest any of that they find someone else is alive and well in the West Home: Damien Darhk. (Damien is also wearing a hat inside. Several people’s mothers really fell down on the job here.) The trio quickly come to the conclusion that Damien’s link to the Time Stone Barry used to Crtl+Z…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 7×03- “Mother”
The Flash (7×03)- “Mother” Written by: Eric Wallace & Kristen Kim Directed by: David McWhirter Picking up pretty much we left the team last week with Cisco, Allegra and Frost coming to. They find Barry kneeling over Iris and if you couldn’t tell by the end of the last episode his little experiment with emotional suppression is over cause he looks to be so far into The Manly Tears that he could break out into Ugly Crying at any second. So, the gang has got some serious problems… Barry has no powers, Singh and Kamilla are trapped in the mirror dimension, dying, Iris is just as fried and did I…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 6×18- “Pay the Piper”
The Flash (6×18)- “Pay the Piper” Written by: Jess Carson Directed by: Amanda Tapping This week opens with Joe in witness protection and he’s looking like most people are feeling after six weeks of house arrest- I mean, “quarantine.” That is to say, frustrated and crazy. Uh-oh, he’s hearing voices… but since they’re voices recapping his situation I don’t think he’s crazy yet. Joe then pulls a gun on a dark corner of the room… Maybe- Nah! Barry emerges from the shadows looking like a guy that literally lost a fight with a mirror and he tells Joe about the Iris dilemma. Joe points out all the things they should…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 6×16- “So Long and Goodnight”
The Flash (6×16)- “So Long and Goodnight” Written by: Kristen Kim & Thomas Pound Directed by: Alexander La Roche This episode starts with our villain, Joseph Carver as he starts his evil day at his evil mansion, wearing his evil sweater, talking to his evil assistant and hiring Ragdoll to kill Joe all while drinking a glass of orange juice… Well, at least he starts his day with a full day’s worth of Vitamin C, so I’ll give him points for that. Then it’s over to the West Home for boys vs girls game night. Joe gets a phone call from Singh and he’s acting a bit suspicious when it…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 6×15- “The Exorcism of Nash Wells”
The Flash (6×15)- “The Exorcism of Nash Wells” Written by: Lauren Barnett & Sterling Gates Directed by: Eric Dean Seaton Are you ready for some hot, steamy Nash Wells backstory action? No? What if we throw in Thawne? Alright! Let’s do this! Anyway, this episode opens with Not-Iris and her new best friend, Not-Kamilla and they’ve been given their marching orders from Eva. They need to get a device she built before she took Louis Carroll way too seriously (There! That reference is official complete and can be set aside) and that her husband has recently sold to Mercury Labs. They need to break in and switch the real for…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 6×14- “Death of the Speed Force”
The Flash (6×14)- “Death of the Speed Force” Written by: Sam Chalsen & Emily Palizzi Directed by: Brent Crowell That is in no way an ominous title… Anyway, let’s go! We start off with some a mid-air high speed rescue and helicopter dismantling. Pretty standard stuff for Barry but apparently he’s made himself a nice cup of tea so it’s a good thing Wally’s back in town after way, way too long. Wally’s back from his journey of Zen and the art of self-discovery to check in with friends and family and like the good friends and family they are the gang gives him a welcome back party. However, Wally…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 6×13- “Grodd Friended Me”
The Flash (6×13)- “Grodd Friended Me” Written by: Kristen Kim & Joshua V Gilbert Directed by: Stefan Pleszczynski Okay! March is here, everyone’s hounding you to join their basketball brackets, the weather’s flipping the coin between winter and spring and the bi-annual complaining about Daylight Savings has come and gone. Do you know what this means? That’s right! The Grodd episode! Even better it’s a Grodd episode where we establish our brand new status quo! The episode starts with a kick in the gut in the form of Barry being unable to find his parents’ graves. In an interesting comment on how much things have changed since Crisis, the latest…
