Rumor: GREEN LANTERN CORPS Finds a Director in Rupert Wyatt
This year, we finally got some movement on DC Films’ Green Lantern Corps, which will unite Hal Jordan and John Stewart. David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes are writing the script, which is based on a story by Goyer and Geoff Johns. Warner Bros.’ casting shortlist for Hal Jordan reportedly includes/included Armie Hammer, James Marsden, and even Ryan Reynolds.
Now, we may have a director. According to That Hashtag Show, Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt has signed on to direct Green Lantern Corps. (Turns out Tracking Board EiC Jeff Sneider teased this a couple weeks ago.) His next film, Captive State, is in post-production now, and his schedule seems to have cleared up to bring in Green Lantern Corps.
If this rumor is true, then Green Lantern Corps will mark Wyatt’s first comic book movie. He was originally attached to direct Fox’s Gambit movie a while back, but eventually dropped out.
That Hashtag Show also says that Green Lantern Corps will see an older Hal Jordan mentoring a younger John Stewart, and the movie is expected to incorporate some elements of Stewart’s origin from the comics. We even have some casting breakdowns for Jordan and Stewart…
Hal Jordan: Caucasian, 39 – 50. A former military test pilot, he is now a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps.
John Stewart: African- American male, 21 – 30. Prior to joining the Green Lantern Corp, he was a sniper in the military.
