BATMAN V SUPERMAN Composer Hans Zimmer Says He’s Done Scoring Superhero Movies

Hans Zimmer is a frequent film composer for current big-budget tentpoles. One of the genres he is best known for is the comic book movie genre, particularly his work at DC Entertainment. He scored all three films in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, as well as the first two installments of the DC Extended Universe, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, it looks like Zimmer’s time with the genre has come to an end.

Speaking to BBC News (via Screen Crush), Zimmer reveals that he has “retired” from scoring superhero films. “I’m sort of…I might as well just say it. I have officially retired from the superhero business.” He then admits that Batman v Superman, on which he collaborated with Junkie XL, was “very hard” to score.

If Zimmer is serious about retiring from superhero movies, it looks like Zack Snyder’s Justice League is gonna need a new composer. Could Junkie XL completely take over that film’s score? We’ll have to wait and see.

Are you disappointed that Zimmer has quit the superhero game, or do you think it’s time he moved on?
