Zack Snyder Says Grant Gustin’s Flash Wouldn’t Have Been a “Good Fit” For the DC Extended Universe

Over the years, fans have debated the idea of DC’s television shows, including The Flash, potentially crossing over with the cinematic DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros. confirmed years ago that such a crossover isn’t happening, but it’s still a frequent talking point for some reason.

For example, Grant Gustin will not reprise his role as The Flash for the DCEU. Instead, Ezra Miller will play the cinematic version of Barry Allen.

Now, Justice League director Zack Snyder explains to NY Daily News why Gustin’s Flash isn’t in the movies. Quite frankly, the show’s tone wouldn’t have worked well within the greater DCEU. “I just don’t think it was a good fit. I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that (tone is) not our world.”

Snyder adds that the studio’s approach to a Multiverse – aka, multiple different universes all co-existing on film and TV – also played a role in keeping these two worlds from merging. “Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse (idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”

These are all valid points by Snyder. And personally, I think the “Should they or shouldn’t they?” debate for the DC movies and TV shows crossing over is old and tiresome. It’s time for fans to move on and accept the fact that there are two different Flashes at the same time. The DCEU gets to do something new and exciting with its own Flash, while the TV show will continue to craft its own world without worrying about continuity issues. It’s not the end of the world.

As great as Gustin’s Flash is, I think Miller will also be great as the movie Flash. And we should all give Miller a chance. Hopefully, Snyder’s comments here will lay to rest this debate. But, that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

Do you think Grant Gustin’s Flash should have been in the DC Extended Universe? Or are you happy that the two worlds will remain separate.
