BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Now Tracking for $150M+ Opening This Weekend

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is finally hitting theaters this weekend. Last we heard on box office tracking, the film was on course for a $120-140M opening weekend, but many expected the number to go higher. Sure enough, that number has increased, and will likely continue to increase throughout the week.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batman v Superman is now on track to open with at least $150 million this weekend. Some still think this number will go higher, however. In fact, box office analyst Jeff Bock is predicting a whopping $180 million debut. “You can’t deny the truth: Batman v Superman is everything for DC. The fate of an entire universe literally hangs in the balance. You don’t throw down your most iconic characters without going all in. This is break or bust.”

Currently, the record for the highest opening weekend in the spring is The Hunger Games, which grossed $152.5 million around this time four years ago. If this tracking info is any indication, then Batman v Superman will almost definitely surpass this figure.

As for a full worldwide opening, Deadline says that Batman v Superman will debut with an estimated $350 million. That would make it the second best pre-summer opening worldwide, behind last year’s Furious 7 ($397.7M). The DC superhero ensemble is tracking for a $200 million opening overseas. The film is opening pretty much everywhere in the world this weekend, including China. That, combined with the Easter weekend, should only do favors for the movie.

We should hear more box office news very soon, so stay tuned.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25th. The second installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer.
