Zack Snyder Discusses Bringing The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg to the Big Screen

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice focused heavily on Batman and Superman’s relationship, with Wonder Woman playing a small but key supporting role. Additionally, the film offered glimpses at the other three members of the Justice League: The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Obviously, they will all play much bigger roles in 2017’s Justice League.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, director Zack Snyder comments on bringing these iconic heroes to life on film, creating their Batman v Superman cameos and more.

[Warning: The Following Contains SPOILERS From Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.]
Unlike the other two characters, The Flash had two appearances instead of one. In the first, he appears to Bruce Wayne in a vision to warn him about…somebody. It was a very cryptic scene, but it’s expected to pay off in the long run. Additionally, in surveillance footage obtained by LexCorp, Barry Allen is seen using his superspeed to stop a robber.
Snyder reveals that Flash’s scenes were among the first to be filmed for Batman v Superman. Regarding Ezra Miller’s screen test for the role, he says, “I really like him — he’s amazing. We did a little screen test with him, and I was like, OK! … His screen test was way longer than his part in the movie.”
As for creating the character’s cinematic superpowers and collaborating with The Flash film director Seth Grahame-Smith, Snyder adds, “I’ve had a great time working out the physics of the Flash and really talking a lot about it. I’ll gift that all to Seth. We are his research and development department now. … I’m super excited about the evolution of that character and what they plan on doing with him.”

Next up is Aquaman. In his cameo, the King of Atlantis is seen travelling under the sea, quickly swimming past a camera. Snyder intends to make Aquaman a character who should be taken seriously, saying, “I’m a big Aquaman fan, but I always feel like Aquaman takes a lot of heat. He’s the butt of a lot of jokes. But [with] Momoa, that’s not a thing. There will be a whole generation of kids who just think Aquaman is the toughest of all the Justice League characters. I’m into that. That’s a cool possibility.”

Finally, we have Cyborg. In this cameo, we see a video journal entry from his father, Dr. Silas Stone. Victor Stone was in a horrible accident which resulted in the loss of many of his limbs. However, a Mother Box is seen transforming Victor into Cyborg.
Snyder reveals that Cyborg plays a “big part of the heart” of Justice League, further teasing an origin on par with the New 52’s.
As for Silas Stone, the casting of Joe Morton, as well as the character himself, for Batman v Superman was entirely unknown until the film’s release. Snyder recalls directing Morton on the set, saying, “Joe was like, ‘Well, what am I doing?’ I’m like, ‘You’re just coming for a day, and we’re going to do this thing, and it’s a bunch of weird visual effects.’ And he’s like, ‘OK! Uh. Sounds cool!'” Snyder also confirms that Silas Stone will play a “big” role in Justice League.
