Confirmed: THE FLASH Will Adapt “Flashpoint” Storyline in Season Three
The season two finale of The Flash ended on an intriguing cliffhanger, as Barry went back in time to save his mother from Reverse-Flash. This led fans to speculate that next season, the “Flashpoint” comic book story will be adapted, as Barry’s decision is sure to change the timeline in some way. Now, it has been confirmed.
Star Grant Gustin announced on Twitter today that the season three premiere of The Flash is titled “Flashpoint.” He also confirmed that the show’s take on the story will be different from the comic, as well as the animated film adaptation Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.
FLASHPOINT. This is not drill. https://t.co/nzq2NJh9pl— Grant Gustin (@grantgust) June 20, 2016
We’re definitely doing this FP thing our own way.. I’ve read Flashpoint, I’ve seen the amazing animated film. This will be its own thing.— Grant Gustin (@grantgust) June 20, 2016
For those who don’t know, “Flashpoint” follows the creation of a new timeline after Barry saves his mother. In this reality, Barry is not the Flash, Thomas Wayne is Batman, and Wonder Woman and Aquaman are in an earth-threatening war. The storyline ended with the creation of DC Comics’ “New 52” timeline.
It would make sense for The Flash to not adapt “Flashpoint” exactly. Characters like Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are off-limits to the Arrowverse. However, the show will add its own unique twists and turns.
