Lionsgate is Bringing Former DC Title THE MONOLITH to the Big Screen
Back in 2004 and 2005, DC Comics published a series titled The Monolith. Created by writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, the series ran for twelve issues until it was canceled, due to poor sales. DC later relinquished the rights to the property, which reverted back to Palmiotti and Gray. A collection of the series was published by Image Comics in 2012.
But now, the property is coming to the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is developing a film adaptation of The Monolith. Dave Wilson, the creative director of Blur Studio, will make his directorial debut with this movie. Barnett Brettler is writing the script, while Erwin Stoff is producing.
The Monolith is described as a contemporary retelling of the classic Golem tale. The story follows Alice Cohen, who is “…a down-and-out ex-junkie who inherits a house in Brooklyn from her deceased grandmother. Alice discovers her diary and begins to read the tale of a lost love and revenge that begins in the factories of New York during the depression and shows the creation of a monster bent on revenge for the slaying of a good honest man.”
