First Look at the Cast of Marvel and ABC's INHUMANS

After delaying the movie indefinitely, Marvel is now exploring Inhumans on the small screen. The Inhumans have already been a big focus on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but in this new ABC series, we get to meet Black Bolt and the Royal Family. Now, we have a first look.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted a first-look image of the main cast of Inhumans, featuring Black Bolt, Medusa, and others. Additionally, the magazine spoke with showrunner Scott Buck about adapting the comic, potential connections to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., how a movie would fit in, and more.

Buck recalls being hired to reteam with Marvel after Iron Fist, as well as hearing the “exciting” pitch for Inhumans. “I had just finished Iron Fist and was looking for a little time off. Then, Jeph Loeb called me and pitched the idea of the Inhumans, the idea of doing a show basically about this family. We discussed each one of the characters, who they are, their personalities, their journeys. I always approach these things through the characters – what’s the story we can tell about Black Bolt, about Medusa and each one of these members of the Royal Family? It may have been daunting, but I think I was, more than anything, just excited about jumping in.”

Buck then says that Inhumans approaches its cast as if they were “real people,” so even though they have great powers, they’ll still be “grounded.” As for the story, Buck says, “Basically we’re telling a story about a family at a very critical juncture in their lives. When we meet up with them, we’re going to find that pretty much everything they’ve ever known is at risk.”

Meanwhile, Inhumans will feature both Earth and the city Attilan. And, obviously, it takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While events in S.H.I.E.L.D. could “potentially” affect Inhumans, Buck says that there’s no crossover…yet. Also, Buck has no knowledge of an Inhumans movie, so his show has nothing to do with it.

Finally, as for how Inhumans compares to past Marvel shows, Buck explains, “I’m not necessarily comfortable comparing it to other shows. I think we’re creating our own thing here. But having worked on a Netflix Marvel show, obviously I’m very aware of how that show goes. Again, just because the approach is strictly through character, we’re interested in creating an interesting world with interesting people that pull us in, so if there’s similarities to the other shows in that way, I guess that would be the case.”

Inhumans will premiere its first two episodes in IMAX theaters on September 1st. The eight-episode series will then air on ABC beginning September 26th.
