Spoiler Recap: ARROW Episode 6×1 “Fallout”

In the season premiere, we finally get to see the fallout of what happened in last years finale. The show starts off in present day with Team Arrow on a mission, as usual. The opening was fantastic and the action was amazing. Each moment slowly reveals one character after another, and then you realize that no one important is dead. The reveal was nice and I’m glad the gang is back together, but I can’t help but like it cheapens the finale. Only two characters were seriously affected by the incident. Well, there’s more but we’ll get to that later.

After the death of Samantha, Oliver is left with this kid that he has no relationship with. William thinks Oliver is the reason why his mom is dead – and he’s absolutely right. Chase wanted to hurt the people Oliver loved. He succeeded by hurting William. Their relationship is broken and it’s gonna take time to heal. It’ll take awhile, not sure how much but things will get better. The team might not have been affected physically, but they were shaken mentally. We learn that Quinton and Dinah went to look for survivors, specifically Nyssa. They end up running into Black Siren and she’s about to kill Black Canary. Before she’s able to murder Dinah, Quinton shoots Siren and leaves her for dead. Having to kill your own daughter like that (even if she’s not from this earth) must be tough. I don’t know how anyone can handle that. Of course, this leaves him a reck, and the two never told the others about it [for some reason]. Quinton and Dinah aren’t the only ones with secrets. Diggle can’t shoot straight to save his life, literally. Is he suffering from a form of PTSD? It sure looks that way – definitely something to keep an eye on.

As the story progresses we see that Black Siren is alive and wants to get revenge on Quinton; Confirming that nobody died except William’s mommy- I’m pretty sure the  Al Ghul’s will be back. Dinah and Quinton finally tell the team what happened and things go as expected, nothing really came of it. Seriously, why was this a big secret? They “killed” an enemy in self-defense, what was the big deal? Anyways, Katie Cassidy is a great villain and I love whenever Black Siren is on screen. She feels like a corny 60s Batman villain, and I mean that in the best possible way. I like that they kept this episode on a smaller scale. It picks up months after the finale, but it doesn’t really feel like it. Even the villain of the episode has a connection to the finale, and it all worked so well. The only question is who came back for Siren?

Siren gets away and will presumably be a major player this season. I just wish Quinton can finally be somewhat happy. He’s dealt with just as much heartache as Oliver. Speaking of our hooded hero; Oliver is still the Mayor of Star City and things are going great. Naturally, this means things are gonna go south very very quickly. For starters, Thea is in a coma and hasn’t been conscious since the explosion. Then at the very end, he gets his identity revealed to the world! There was no warning, no setup, we were left just as surprised as he was. That was the perfect cliffhanger. So many times he’s taken his hood or mask off and we’re left thinking: “what if he gets caught?” Well, it seems that he’s finally been caught. We don’t even know when that picture was taken. Was it this episode or last season? This is a chance to fundamentally change the show forever. Do they have the guts to go all the way?

This was a solid season opener. We dealt with what happened last season and revealed interesting things to explore in this season. There weren’t as many deaths as one might like, but the fact that they didn’t hit the reset button is good enough. What role will Slade play? We didn’t even talk about him, Slade’s back by the way. When will Thea wake up? How will the team deal with Oliver’s secret getting out? So many questions and I personally can’t wait to have them answered. We’ll talk about Arrow again soon. Stay tuned for more on the Arrowverse.

Watch Arrow Thursday nights at 9/8ct on The CW.
