Margot Robbie Confirms Development on Yet Another Harley Quinn Spinoff
Following the success of Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn quickly became the subject of several more movies that are in development. Robbie is attached to reprise the role in Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, AND a Harley/Joker movie. Now, it looks like yet another project is in the works.
Speaking with MTV (transcription via ComicBook), Robbie confirms that she’s developing another Harley Quinn spinoff, which is separate from both Gotham City Sirens and Harley/Joker. “Yeah, I’ve been working on it for two years now. I mean, it’s hard to kind of talk about it, because all the stuff is kind of under lock and key. But I’ve been working on a separate spinoff Harley thing for a while now.” She goes on to say that she wants to see Harley work with more women. “I kept saying when we were shooting Suicide Squad, I was like ‘She needs her girlfriends.’ She needs other girls around her, because she loves that. You see that in the comics, she loves meeting people, any people. But she needs a little girl gang.”
Last year, it was reported that Robbie was starring in and producing a Harley-centric film starring various female characters from the DC Universe. Batgirl and the Birds of Prey were rumored, with Christina Holden writing the script. Fans assumed that this was Gotham City Sirens, but it sounds like they’re two separate things.
Robbie is expected to reprise the role next year, presumably for Suicide Squad 2. However, she admits here that she’s not 100% sure what’s happening next, since there are multiple things in the works.
