JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR Mid-Credits Scene Hints At Another New 52 Adaptation; More On Future DC Animated Features

Justice League: War made its world premiere last night, while yesterday also saw its debut on digital download. Speaking with Newsarama at the event, producer James Tucker and voice director Andrea Romano talk about what’s to come in future animated DC titles. The former confirmed that War is indeed launching a new animated universe, which will be based off of the New 52. “It’s our own version of the New 52 universe, our own start.” While this new continuity will adapt New 52 storylines, original stories will also be explored. Tucker also expresses interest in adapting more classic tales from DC lore. He and director Jay Oliva said that dream projects would include “Kingdom Come”, “Red Son”, “Long Halloween”, and “Gotham by Gaslight”. However, none of these projects are in development, and the former would be especially difficult to adapt.
Back to the new continuity, there will be efforts to keep the voices consistent. However, Romano says that some actors “may have to come in and out”, due to the format of a film series rather than a TV series. She also states that the animation of the movies will help determine if any recasting needs to take place. “We try to start from a story, then go to an art style, and let that dictate the rest.”

Finally, while 2014 will see the release of Son of Batman and Batman: Assault on Arkham, a mid-credits scene for Justice League: War hinted at the next New 52 adaptation. While you can head over to Newsarama for the full description, [SPOILER WARNING] the scene features Ocean Master/Orm, setting up a previously confirmed feature focusing on Aquaman. Panelists at the Justice League: War premiere remained mum on the scene, but they reaffirmed that there are plans for the King of Atlantis. Newsarama asked specifically if a 2015 movie would adapt the “Throne of Atlantis” story arc, and received this answer. “You’ll see a movie with Atlantis in the title.” Finally, WB/DC is looking at both the most popular and off-the-wall elements of the New 52 for future movies.
A “Throne of Atlantis” movie would be an ideal way to follow-up on Justice League: War. Similar to how The Flash took center stage in The Flashpoint Paradox, Aquaman could be the focus of a Justice League title. More from the premiere of Justice League: War should come soon, and stay tuned for Watchtower of Babel’s review of the movie in the coming weeks.
