Speaking with Flickering Myth
, Dark City
and 300: Rise of an Empire
production designer Patrick Tatopoulos talks about reteaming with director Zack Snyder for Batman vs. Superman.
He says that the movie is “huge”, and is very excited to be tackling such a project. “I’m working in Detroit on Batman vs. Superman and its super cold there. At the end of 300: Rise of an Empire I met with Zack [Snyder] and he said, ‘I going to do this movie and want you to design it.’ I was stunned. I thought, ‘Wow! Great.’ That’s where it started. This is a crazy huge movie. It’s taking a lot of energy but it’s something that someone like me needs to do in his lifetime.”
He then goes into more detail about wanting to work on both Batman and Superman for some time. “There’s a project that is close to me that I was going to direct and I said, ‘I need to do this.’ Working with Zack again was important to me because he’s an amazing director with an incredible vision. Batman and Superman is something I’ve always wanted to do. I would have chosen one or both. I got the offer and jumped on it.”
Finally, Tatopoulos comments on the film’s recent release date delay, calling it a blessing. “The big chunk that we want to do for the movie is there but there is so much more to do. For me, it’s been a blessing that it has been pushed a little bit.”
In other Batman vs. Superman
news, it looks like we’ll be getting our first look at both the new Batman and Wonder Woman costumes very soon. According to Forbes and Batman-on-Film writer Mark Hughes
, the suits are expected to be revealed as early as the next 10-12 days, sometime within the next two weeks. He says that there could be a slight delay in the reveal, since filming has been pushed back some. Officially debuting the new costumes around the time production begins would show them off before set photos leak online. However, there’s still the possibility of the reveal coming as originally planned. So, stay tuned for that within the next couple weeks. There’s also no word on whether or not Superman’s new look will also be released, but hopefully, that will be showcased alongside Batman and Wonder Woman.
Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
