Paul’s 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2022
The past couple years have been a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the film industry. With the ongoing pandemic affecting every area of life, there have been big changes in how we watch movies and what movies even come out. There have been delays, changes in production, and switching from theatrical to streaming. However, slowly but surely, movies are starting to make a return to form at theaters. We’ve had some box office successes in 2021, with blockbuster films finally coming back to theaters. Of course, the biggest hit was by far Spider-Man: No Way Home, which scored the second biggest opening weekend of all time and is currently…

Hops and Box Office Flops: ‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’
Passion Fruit Starfish James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which is a pseudo-sequel to 2016’s film, is an unapologetic, Troma-inspired, super heroic gore fest. And it is glorious! This is Gunn’s superhero magnum opus. He dives deep into DC’s bag of obscure characters to assemble a ragtag group of expendable heathens. Make no mistake, many of these oddballs are here to die. And they do so in a series of grotesque ways. This is a hard R, folks. Unlike Birds of Prey or Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which could’ve curbed their foul language to earn a PG-13, The Suicide Squadbasks in the magnificence of its unfettered violence. Bullets are sprayed, a man is murdered with his…

Hops and Box Office Flops: ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE – Little Fish Stick and Big Tuna
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a cinematic anomaly. When Snyder had to step away due to a family tragedy, Warner Bros. (WB) essentially hacked the material he left them to bits. Under the guidance of Joss Whedon, Snyder’s originally footage was morphed into a soulless attempt to capture the magic of the MCU. It didn’t work—a topic we explored in-depth on our Joss-Stache League episode. That film appealed to no one, but it particularly riled those faithful to Snyder’s vision. Thus, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut was born—a fan movement spawned from the betrayal many felt the studio had committed. Make no mistake, folks, this movie is a whole new beast. From Steppenwolf’s arc to Darkseid’s ominous presence to…

Zack Snyder’s Justice League Review – The Age of Heroes Has Returned
So, this is awkward. Almost four years ago, I reviewed Justice League (2017). and enjoyed it for the Frankenstein it was. I was never a fan of Zack Snyder’s work and didn’t care to see his vision for the DC Universe continue. However, his Justice League changed everything. This is a weird review to write because it’s technically a movie you’ve already seen. The premise is straightforward. Like I said in 2017: “There’s an alien threat coming to take over the world. Batman assembles a team of heroes to try and stop them. It’s simple and straight to the point.” However, the biggest difference is the way Snyder treats his characters. We…

Hops and Box Office Flops: JOSS-STACHE LEAGUE – Stiff Upper Lip
Joss-stache League (Justice League) is a cobbled together mess. It’s the Frankenstein’s monster of movies. I wish that were an understatement, but, sadly, it is not; and though it bears Zack Snyder’s name in the credits, it is not his movie. According to Fabian Wagner, the original cut’s cinematographer, up to 90% of what they shot is not in it. That’s right, folks: In under two months, Joss Whedon basically reshot the entire thing. Why? Well, the answer to that is long, winding, and even filled with heartbreak. To keep it brief, the studio was no longer in support of Zack’s vision. When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to break a…

Hops and Box Office Flops: GREEN LANTERN – Shallow Hal Jordan
Green Lantern is a mess—an expensive one, at that. Its horrid CGI suit tells all the tales one needs to know about how misguided the project was. And it was a misfire that had serious ramifications. In 2011, Green Lantern was meant to serve as the kickoff to a new DC movie universe. That notion was immediately squashed. On a budget over $200 million, it grossed just $219.9 million worldwide. Worse, critics (26% on Rotten Tomatoes with 246 reviews) and audiences (45%) reviled it. There would be no sequel, and there certainly would not be an integrated universe with Ryan Reynold’s Hal Jordan at its center. When you watch it, none of the numbers…

WONDER WOMAN 1984 Review
In the sequel to the 2017 blockbuster Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot returns as Diana Prince and takes us on an all-new adventure in Wonder Woman 1984. It’s a film that tries to be more than just your standard action flick but ends up falling into all of the same tropes as films that came before it. The film has this strange campiness to it, and at times it works, but mostly it doesn’t. We’re obviously in the 1980s, but the winks and nods can be too on the nose at times, and the script is ripped straight from that time period. The plot can be a bit clunky and downright…

Our 5 Favorite Moments from DC Fandome 2020 (Part 1)
DC Entertainment tried something new this year. Instead of the usual San Diego Comic-Con panels or out-of-nowhere announcements, the studio held a digital convention for its projects. Dubbed “DC Fandome,” the convention puts the spotlight on upcoming films, television shows, video games, and more. In fact, it was so big, DC decided to split it into two parts. Part 1 took place this past Saturday, while Part 2 will take place on September 12th. Part 1 was a huge success, showing off first looks at upcoming movies and revealing new video games. Fans have been raving about the reveals, trailers, and more since then. Most notably, on the film/TV side,…

Since its launch, HBO Max has added many high-profile originals to its programming lineup. Most prominently, DC Entertainment has been the source of some originals. Most recently, it was announced that Matt Reeves’ The Batman is getting a spinoff series, focusing on the film’s Gotham City Police Department. HBO Max will continue to add DC originals to its slate, and some can be rooted in preexisting movies. DC has an extensive film history, especially in recent years. Any of them can have a spinoff series that takes place in…

5 DC Movie/TV Characters We Want to See in THE FLASH Movie
This week, news broke that DC‘s The Flash/Flashpoint movie will feature a Batman – but not the one anyone expected. Michael Keaton, the star of Batman (1989) and Batman Returns, is in talks to return to his iconic role, in what is said to be the first of several appearances throughout the DC Extended Universe. This opens all kinds of doors for the film. Once thought to be just a loose adaptation of the Flashpoint comic, The Flash will now give moviegoers a glimpse of the DC Multiverse. This can allow for other characters from DC’s film and television history to appear. We saw this in The CW’s Crisis on…
