    Paul’s 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2022

    January 17, 2022 / 0 Comments

The past couple years have been a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the film industry.  With the ongoing pandemic affecting every area of life, there have been big changes in how we watch movies and what movies even come out.  There have been delays, changes in production, and switching from theatrical to streaming. However, slowly but surely, movies are starting to make a return to form at theaters. We’ve had some box office successes in 2021, with blockbuster films finally coming back to theaters.  Of course, the biggest hit was by far Spider-Man: No Way Home, which scored the second biggest opening weekend of all time and is currently…

Wakanda Forever: The Legacy of Chadwick Boseman

    August 30, 2020 / 0 Comments

I fondly remember seeing Black Panther in theaters opening weekend more than two years ago. I always knew that the film would have a major impact. It was the first Marvel Studios movie starring a black superhero, and the first major superhero movie with a predominately black cast and crew. Black Panther was also one of my favorite superheroes, and to finally see him on the big screen was exciting, to say the least. But the energy surrounding the film’s opening weekend was higher than even I expected. My theater was crowded – not common for a Saturday morning showing – and the audience interacted heavily with the movie. Black…

How Avengers: Endgame Ruined the MCU

    April 26, 2020 / 0 Comments

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise in the world. It has over 20 films, many of which grossed over $1B at the box office, and features many fan-favorite characters. The ending of The Infinity Saga was a worldwide event. The fourth Avengers film broke box office records, and nearly everyone on the planet saw this movie. Then, that was it. The story was done. A satisfying conclusion to a series we’ve followed for over ten years, but then Marvel decided to keep the train rolling. The story would continue past its climactic ending. Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are such monumental movies. They are the closest thing we can get to a modern-day…

5 MCU Characters Who Should Join the New Avengers (and 5 Who Should Not)

    April 24, 2020 / 0 Comments

With Marvel Studios concluding the Infinity Saga with last year’s Avengers: Endgame, fans have anticipated what the universe’s future will hold. Specifically, there has been much speculation over the future of the Avengers team. Endgame definitively wrapped up almost every original member’s story, while recent movies have introduced many new heroes. However, Marvel has understandably been quiet about future Avengers movies. Recently, a rumor said that Captain Marvel 2 would pave the way for a New Avengers movie. With Captain Marvel‘s big success last year and the character playing a key supporting role in Endgame, chances are she’d help spearhead this new Avengers team. But who would join her? Below,…

    Review: AVENGERS: ENDGAME (2019)

    April 26, 2019 / 0 Comments

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame. It’s no stretch to say that Avengers: Endgame is one of the most anticipated movies in history. Marvel Studios has been building up to this moment for 11 years, from the first Iron Man movie. These movies have been huge from the beginning. Anticipation skyrocketed even more after Avengers: Infinity War, which ended in a huge cliffhanger that saw the victory of Thanos and deaths of many beloved heroes. So,…

    The Legacy of THE AVENGERS

    April 24, 2019 / 0 Comments

Superheroes have been around for almost 100 years. They are the American gods, mythology created to inspire and to entertain with their legend. Superman taking to the skies, showing us how to be our best self. Batman clinging to the darkness, showing that our imperfections are what make us who we are. These new gods have shaped fiction in the 20th century, so it’s only fitting that they also change the world of film. Superman made us believe that a man could fly. Batman showed us how to dance with the devil. Still, even with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men, we never really saw the comics reach…

James Gunn Returns as Director for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

    March 15, 2019 / 0 Comments

Last summer, writer-director James Gunn was fired from Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The decision was made after the resurfacing of old tweets, which contained a lot of offensive jokes. Disney‘s decision was met with much criticism. In fact, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast released an open letter supporting Gunn. Since then, Gunn moved to DC, signing on to write and direct The Suicide Squad. But now, Disney has reversed its decision. Gunn is set to return as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Why the change? Well, Disney chairman Alan Horn has met with Gunn multiple times after the firing, and he was impressed…

Marvel’s SHANG-CHI Sets Director, RED SONJA Drops Bryan Singer

    March 14, 2019 / 0 Comments

We have a couple of director updates in the world of comic book movies. Marvel Studios‘ Shang-Chi film has recruited a director as it hits the fast track. Meanwhile, the controversial Red Sonja reboot has apparently dropped its director. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) has signed on to direct Shang-Chi for Marvel. Cretton was chosen over directors Justin Tipping (Dear White People), Alan Yang (Master of None), and Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones). Dave Callaham is writing the script. Shang-Chi is Marvel’s latest shift towards a more diverse slate of superheroes. The film is expected to have a largely Asian-American and Asian cast. This comes in the wake of…

    REVIEW: AGENT CARTER One-Shot

    March 3, 2019 / 0 Comments

Haley Atwell is amazing. She’s traversed three forms of media for the role of Peggy Carter, and has rightly deserved every paycheck for it. This short film was received very well. It screened at San Diego Comic-Con, before being released as a special feature with Iron Man 3. The response led ABC ordering a television series. The Agent Carter One-Shot stars Atwell, along with Dominic Cooper returning as Howard Stark and Bradley Whitford as John Flynn, Peggy’s SSR boss. The short focuses on Peggy facing sexism as a member of the SSR, the agency before S.H.I.E.L.D.. This short is a work of art. It tackles the issue of sexism in…
