Marvel Begins the Search for a BLACK WIDOW Director
With Avengers: Infinity War in theaters now and Avengers 4 in post-production, Marvel Studios is putting together a slate for a fourth Phase of movies. Among these is the long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson and written by Jac Schaeffer. Now, the studio has begun the search for a director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is looking for a female director to take on Black Widow. So far, the studio has met with filmmakers Deniz Gamze Ergüven (Mustang), Chloé Zhao (The Rider), Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), and several others. However, the search is still ongoing, so it’s possible (even likely) that more names will be added to the list.
If Marvel goes through with this, Black Widow will be the second MCU movie with a female director. Anna Boden is co-directing Captain Marvel alongside Ryan Fleck.
Recent rumors suggest that Black Widow will be a prequel, set before the events of Iron Man 2. Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier is rumored to be involved.
