Kevin Feige Debunks BLACK WIDOW R-Rating Rumor
Black Widow will not be rated “R”. Marvel producer, Kevin Feige In an interview with Comicbook.com, Kevin Feige was asked about the Black Widow film being R-rated. He replied: “It was never going to be. Somebody writes, ‘I hear it’s (Black Widow) R-rated! and then everybody writes it up.” Now, fans can officially expect Black Widow to be consistent with her appearances in past MCU films. Avoiding excessive harsh language, bloody action scenes, and such content that would restrict who could watch it. It was recently revealed that a new Supergirl movie is in the works at Warner Bros. and DC Films. Now, we know what type of director they’re looking for. Unsurprisingly, the studio is keen on hiring a female filmmaker to tackle this project. BLACK WIDOW Movie Recruits Director Cate Shortland
For the past few months, Marvel Studios has been looking at directors for its long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson. The studio has been adamant about having a female director for this particular film. Last we heard, Lore filmmaker Cate Shortland was the frontrunner to take the job. Now, it’s happening. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shortland has signed on to direct Black Widow. The hire comes after over 70 directors were considered. Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) were the finalists, while Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) came close too. Marvel’s BLACK WIDOW Director Search Continues
After the success of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel is planning for the future. They are moving ahead with a Black Widow solo film, starring Scarlett Johansson of course. Deadline is reporting that Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome) is the frontrunner to direct. We know that the film will likely be a prequel, set before the events of Iron Man 2. Deadline is also reporting that Marvel head Kevin Feige and Johansson met with Amma Asante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) for the directing gig. With Avengers: Infinity War in theaters now and Avengers 4 in post-production, Marvel Studios is putting together a slate for a fourth Phase of movies. Among these is the long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson and written by Jac Schaeffer. Now, the studio has begun the search for a director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is looking for a female director to take on Black Widow. So far, the studio has met with filmmakers Deniz Gamze Ergüven (Mustang), Chloé Zhao (The Rider), Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), and several others. After spending several Marvel movies in a supporting role, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will star in her own movie, scripted by Jac Schaeffer.
