Will Smith Will Not Return for THE SUICIDE SQUAD
Despite Suicide Squad‘s massive financial success, Warner Bros. has taken its time with getting a sequel rolling. After several director changes, former guardian of the galaxy James Gunn is taking the helm. The sequel, now titled The Suicide Squad, will consist of a mostly new cast of characters. It’s been unknown how many characters from the first film will return. But now, we know one who will not be back.
Will Smith, who played renown assassin Deadshot in Suicide Squad, will not return for the sequel. Apparently, it came down to scheduling conflicts. Smith’s busy schedule was one reason why the sequel has taken so long, so now, it’s moving forward without him.
As for the Deadshot character’s future, WB is considering either replacing him with a new DC character, or recasting the role altogether.
Meanwhile, Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn and Viola Davis‘ Amanda Waller are reportedly expected to return. But any other characters are to be determined. We’ll just have to wait and see.
The Suicide Squad is expected to begin production this fall for an August 6th, 2021 release.
