    Paul’s 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2022

    January 17, 2022 / 0 Comments

The past couple years have been a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the film industry.  With the ongoing pandemic affecting every area of life, there have been big changes in how we watch movies and what movies even come out.  There have been delays, changes in production, and switching from theatrical to streaming. However, slowly but surely, movies are starting to make a return to form at theaters. We’ve had some box office successes in 2021, with blockbuster films finally coming back to theaters.  Of course, the biggest hit was by far Spider-Man: No Way Home, which scored the second biggest opening weekend of all time and is currently…

Hops and Box Office Flops: HULK – The Incredible Sulk

    April 2, 2021 / 0 Comments

Ang Lee’s Hulk is ponderous—absurdly so—and mostly revolves around the gruesome father/son relationship between Bruce (Eric Bana) and David Banner (Nick Nolte). Reportedly, Lee wanted the film to evoke the weighty emotions of a Greek tragedy. It certainly does generate a palpable response, but it’s apathy. For a movie whose title character is a big, green, rage monster, the Hulk is seldom seen for the first hour. When he does show up, he’s relegated to fighting mutant poodles with a penchant for crotch attacks. Now, I’m not saying this movie wasn’t ambitious because it certainly was. Unfortunately, all its aspirations are for naught; and it all amounts to little more than odd familial drama…

Hops and Box Office Flops: GHOST RIDER SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE – Ride Angry

    March 19, 2021 / 0 Comments

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which is a sequel to the 2007 original, is so insane it almost works. Nicolas Cage, the Rider or Johnny Blaze, goes full Cage. It’s equal parts glorious and dumbfounding. That is the movie in a nutshell. For everything that works—such as the Rider possessing humongous construction equipment—there are far too many other elements that do not.  From the dude from Empire Records overacting literally every piece of dialogue to Idris Elba’s mindbogglingly bad French accent, there are just far too many palm face moments. That said, it is better than the first—despite what the reviews (18% on Rotten Tomatoes with 114 reviews) and the…

THE FANBOY: “DC United Under One Vision? WandaVision Lays Exciting Groundwork for Marvel, Maguire and Leto Return, and More From Zack Snyder’s Justice League!”

February 12, 2021 / Comments Off on THE FANBOY: “DC United Under One Vision? WandaVision Lays Exciting Groundwork for Marvel, Maguire and Leto Return, and More From Zack Snyder’s Justice League!”

This week’s episode of The Fanboy Podcast begins with an examination of quotes from HBO Max’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys on the interconnectivity of the DC universe, going forward. He paints a picture of an Arrowverse, Snyderverse, Titansverse, and Films universe that all work together in a logical way, and MFR reacts. Things then shift into thoughts on Marvel’s WandaVision, where things have finally kicked into a gear where MFR had to delve in and see what all the hype was about. What he found was the promising start of the next chapter in the Marvel saga. He also touches on the rumor that Tobey Maguire has officially signed on…

5 More Marvel Legacy Characters We Want to See in the MCU

    February 7, 2021 / 0 Comments

[Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers From WandaVision, As Well As Rumors Regarding the Third Spider-Man Movie’s Plot.] Before and during the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, other studios created their own films based on Marvel characters. Retroactively referred to as “Marvel Legacy” movies, they range from the wildly successful Spider-Man and X-Men franchises to standalone movies starring the likes of Daredevil, Hulk and the Fantastic Four. They all exist in their own continuity, which is almost unheard of in the modern age of superhero films. But now, with the MCU getting ready to explore the Multiverse, these worlds are starting to blur. Following J.K. Simmons’ reprisal of J.…

Wakanda Forever: The Legacy of Chadwick Boseman

    August 30, 2020 / 0 Comments

I fondly remember seeing Black Panther in theaters opening weekend more than two years ago. I always knew that the film would have a major impact. It was the first Marvel Studios movie starring a black superhero, and the first major superhero movie with a predominately black cast and crew. Black Panther was also one of my favorite superheroes, and to finally see him on the big screen was exciting, to say the least. But the energy surrounding the film’s opening weekend was higher than even I expected. My theater was crowded – not common for a Saturday morning showing – and the audience interacted heavily with the movie. Black…

5 More SPIDER-MAN Video Games We Want to See

    August 5, 2020 / 0 Comments

When it comes to superhero video games, few characters have had more titles than Spider-Man. The Marvel web-slinger has headlined countless games across multiple generations of consoles. Whether it’s original stories, film tie-ins or guest appearances in other games, Spidey is everywhere. Most recently, the character starred in Marvel’s Spider-Man, a PlayStation 4 exclusive that is one of the genre’s greatest. It has spawned an upcoming spinoff in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Meanwhile, Peter Parker guest stars in Marvel Ultimate Alliances 3: The Black Order and the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. Of course, that won’t be the end. Spider-Man is a lucrative video game franchise, and Sony and Marvel will continue to…

5 More Superhero Actors Who Should Return to Their Roles

    June 25, 2020 / 0 Comments

In the world of comic book movies, many actors have taken on the roles of superheroes. Some have had recurring roles that lasted years, some have had shorter runs, and some have only played their character once. But few can match the excitement of actors who return to their roles many years after their last portrayal. Crisis on Infinite Earths brought back both Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Tom Welling (Smallville), while John Wesley Shipp reprised his role as the original TV Flash after two decades. Most recently, it was reported that Michael Keaton is eyeing a return as Batman in The Flash movie. The list goes on, but clearly,…

5 Movie Crossovers That Would Be Cool, But Will Never Happen

    June 20, 2020 / 0 Comments

Crossovers are a novelty that have found much success, especially in movies. Whether it’s Alien vs. Predator, Freddy vs. Jason, or entire cinematic universes based on Marvel and DC superheroes, it’s a trend that excites fans and usually brings in the dough. That trend will continue with the likes of Godzilla vs. Kong and Space Jam: A New Legacy on the way. Fans will undoubtedly continue to run wild with ideas for more crossovers between their favorite franchises. While there are some that could feasibly happen, there are others that are, for lack of a better term, unrealistic. For one reason or another, there are some crossovers that just can’t…
