5 More SPIDER-MAN Video Games We Want to See

Categories video games

When it comes to superhero video games, few characters have had more titles than Spider-Man. The Marvel web-slinger has headlined countless games across multiple generations of consoles. Whether it’s original stories, film tie-ins or guest appearances in other games, Spidey is everywhere. Most recently, the character starred in Marvel’s Spider-Man, a PlayStation 4 exclusive that is one of the genre’s greatest. It has spawned an upcoming spinoff in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Meanwhile, Peter Parker guest stars in Marvel Ultimate Alliances 3: The Black Order and the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers.

Of course, that won’t be the end. Spider-Man is a lucrative video game franchise, and Sony and Marvel will continue to expand it for years to come. Thankfully, Spidey is a character who has infinite potential with his source material, so the possibilities are endless.

Below, we list five Spider-Man video games that we want to see.

Spider-Man PS4 Sequel(s)

While a Spider-Man PS4 sequel hasn’t been officially announced yet, it’s inevitable, as Insomniac has teased future stories for Peter. The first game’s credit scenes teased the arrival of Venom and a bigger role for the Osborn family, so a sequel has to explore that. And with how limitless the worldbuilding has been so far, a third game (and beyond) will probably happen too. Insomniac can introduce their takes on other Spidey characters – Green Goblin, Mysterio, Kraven, etc. – while continuing to solidify this as one of the biggest modern video game franchises.

Venom

One Spidey supporting character who has come into his own is Venom. This character has had a surge in popularity in recent years, thanks to the 2018 movie and a gamechanging comic book run. A Venom video game can be a lot of fun. You can play as either the symbiotic antihero or one of his hosts, like Eddie Brock. This can also work as a game in its own world or another spinoff from Spider-Man PS4. Either way, Venom’s popularity is at an all-time high, and it makes sense to create a game to cash in.

Old Game Remasters/Remakes

Again, Spidey has had a lot of solid games over the years. Many of these are on older consoles, making it harder for modern gamers to access them. So, why not remaster or remake some of them? One obvious choice is Ultimate Spider-Man, which focuses on both Spidey and Venom in a very comic book-y title. There is also Spider-Man 2, based on the movie of the same name and one of the best movie tie-in games. Ultimately, Spidey has a wealth of games that can be brought to current consoles, and it’d make sense for Marvel to pursue it.

LEGO Spider-Man

LEGO and Marvel have collaborated on several video games. There are the two LEGO Marvel Superheroes titles, as well as LEGO Marvel’s Avengers; the latter adapts the first two Avengers movies and others from the MCU. Spider-Man has appeared in all of these games. If LEGO were to create a solo game for Marvel, then Spidey is the obvious choice. It would be a fresh new direction for the franchise, and there are many Spidey characters who can work well LEGO-ized.

Spider-Verse

Lastly, we have the big one. The Spider-Verse is a concept that has been explored in games before (see Shattered Dimensions), but it would be great to revisit it in the future. My idea is that it can be a massive open-world game, where players can create their own web-slinger and play online. Something like Fortnite or GTA Online, but with Spider-Men and Women. It also gives a lot of crossover potential; for example, Insomniac’s Spider-Man can meet the Spidey from Marvel’s Avengers or even Spider-Man 2. But regardless, with the Spider-Verse, the possibilities are enless.
