JUSTICE LEAGUE PART ONE Casts J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon

With production set to begin on April 11th, casting is now underway for Justice League Part One, the long-awaited DC superhero ensemble. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and more actors from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will reprise their roles, while Amber Heard is in talks to play Mera.

Now, a key Batman supporting character will make his DC Extended Universe debut in Justice League, with a recent Oscar winner on board to play him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.K. Simmons will play James Gordon, the police commissioner of Gotham City. The role will mark Simmons’ second comic book movie role; he plays the beloved J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. He won an Academy Award last year for his role in Whiplash.

Jim Gordon has been a frequent character in Batman lore, appearing in many film and TV adaptations. Most recently, he was played by Gary Oldman in The Dark Knight Trilogy. The character is currently the star of Fox’s Gotham series, where he’s played by Ben McKenzie.
