Marc Guggenheim Discusses ARROW’s 100th Episode and Supergirl’s Role in the Big Crossover Event

The CW’s DC TV crossover event will easily be the biggest one yet. The story will combine four shows – Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – into a three-episode arc. This even includes the 100th episode of Arrow, which will serve as the ultimate love letter to the show despite the crossover.

At a press screening this week (via Entertainment Weekly), executive producer Marc Guggenheim discusses this year’s crossover event. Specifically, he reveals how and why Supergirl is teaming up with her fellow heroes to fight the Dominators. “Once the heroes realize that they’re up against aliens, they decide that they need an alien on their side. Fortunately, Barry knows a really nice one. I don’t think it’s a big shock that between Barry and Cisco, and all their experiences with Earth-2 and the multi-verse, that they can pluck [Kara] from Earth-CBS.” Last season on Supergirl, The Flash appeared in an episode. This was what established the show – then at CBS – within the DC-CW Multiverse.

Guggenheim then confirms that an upcoming episode of Supergirl will see Barry and Cisco coming in to recruit Kara, leading in to the crossover storyline. However, the story doesn’t formally kick off until The Flash, with Arrow as the middle part and Legends of Tomorrow serving as the conclusion.

Speaking of Arrow, Guggenheim also discusses fitting this storyline within Arrow‘s 100th episode. He reaffirms that the crossover won’t “hijack” the celebration, thanks to Greg Berlanti’s story idea. This episode will bring back a lot of Arrow‘s classic characters, such as Robert and Moira Queen, Laurel Lance and even Deathstroke.

Additionally, Guggenheim confirms that Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Darhk will return in the episode, while Team Arrow 2.0 (Mister Terrific, Artemis, Ragman and Wild Dog) will have a role to play. Guggenheim explains, “It is a love letter to the show, it draws on all previous 99 episodes pretty much. Everyone who we could have in the episode, from a scheduling point of view, is in the episode. Even the people who we couldn’t have, because of conflicting schedules, are represented. At the same time, you’ve got Flash and Supergirl; that’s an enormous amount of fun. Certainly the recruits also play a very large role, an important role, in the episode.”

The CW’s four-show DC crossover event will air sometime in December.
