FEATURE: 5 Characters We Want to See in FLASHPOINT

At San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Warner Bros. announced that its standalone Flash movie has been named Flashpoint, adapting one of DC’s biggest storylines. The original story saw Barry Allen travel back in time to save his mother, but in the process, he created a whole new timeline that was drastically different. Barry later resets the timeline, leading directly into DC’s New 52 “reboot.”
It’s unknown how much from the original story will be adapted into the film. So far, Cyborg and Wonder Woman (who played key roles in the comic) have been set for this movie, while Iris West and Henry Allen were confirmed a while back. Flashpoint is expected to feature “several” of the Justice League members; considering Aquaman’s crucial role in the comic, we can probably expect him here too.
Below, we’ve compiled a list of five characters we hope to see in Flashpoint.
Thomas Wayne’s Batman
Gonna get the most obvious suggestion out of the way. In the Flashpoint timeline, Bruce Wayne was killed by the mugger in that alleyway, rather than his parents. This leads to his father, Thomas, becoming Batman. Thomas Wayne’s version of the Dark Knight is very different from his son’s. For starters, he has no issues with killing or using guns. Thomas eventually allies himself with Flash as he seeks to restore the timeline.
Ever since Jeffery Dean Morgan was cast as Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans have been begging to see him play Flashpoint Batman. Honestly, if it doesn’t happen, it’d be a hugely missed opportunity. Morgan fits the role like a glove, and he could make Flashpoint even more engaging. Plus, the film can feature Batman in a key role without relying on Bruce.
Martha Wayne’s Joker
We’ve seen what happens to Thomas Wayne, but what about Martha? After Bruce’s murder, his mother is driven to the point of insanity, eventually becoming The Joker of this timeline. It creates a fascinating dynamic between the two Waynes, and it’s a greater indication of just how twisted the Flashpoint timeline is in comparison to the original.
Putting Martha Wayne’s Joker in Flashpoint is an ideal move. It gives actress Lauren Cohan more to do, while it’s another Batman connection that Warner Bros. would totally be on board with. Also, in addition to Batman v Superman, both Cohan and Morgan are on The Walking Dead, which should attract more interest.
Lois Lane

Like just about everyone else in the Flashpoint timeline, Lois Lane is very different here than in the original timeline. While she’s known for her journalistic work at the Daily Planet, Flashpoint’s Lois is instead a member of the Resistance, a group that opposes the war between the Amazons and the Atlanteans. She acts as a spy on the Amazons for Cyborg at one point.
Amy Adams’ Lois Lane has played a key role in most of the DC films so far, so it would make sense to bring her into the next ensemble. It would also give Adams a meaty new role, bringing her into more of the action and exploring parts of the character not seen on screen before.
Superman
Speaking of Lois, you gotta bring in the Man of Steel too. In the Flashpoint timeline, Kal-El’s ship landed on Earth, but he was not discovered by the Kents. Instead, he crash lands directly into Metropolis and is taken into custody by the government. He spends his life confined in a cell; due to his lack of exposure to the sun, he is very thin and weak. Kal is the basis of “Project Superman,” a military project designed to create supersoldiers.
With most of the Justice League expected to appear in Flashpoint, it only makes sense for Superman to be included. Henry Cavill’s Kal-El is the heart of the universe, and seeing a drastically different version of him would be fascinating. It gives Cavill a new type of role to play. Plus, we don’t know when Superman is getting his next solo film, so might as well keep him a recurring player in the ensembles.
Reverse-Flash
And of course, you can’t have Flashpoint without Barry Allen’s greatest enemy. In the comics, Eobard Thawne travels back in time and murders Barry’s mother. Barry travels back in time to to prevent this, creating the Flashpoint timeline. Even in the new timeline, Thawne returns to torment Barry and make him feel guilty for saving his mother. Thawne is then killed by Flashpoint Batman.
Flashpoint would be the perfect opportunity to bring in Reverse-Flash, considering the character’s close ties to its story. And since this is technically Flash’s first “solo” film, it makes sense to bring in his arch-nemesis. But if Thawne is nowhere to be seen, then it’d be a massive missed opportunity.
Honorable Mentions: Shazam, Bruce Wayne, Green Arrow, Deathstroke, Steve Trevor
