DC Movie News Bits: Jackie Earle Haley Rumored for SUICIDE SQUAD, Jai Courtney Talks Boomerang Costume, Jim Parsons Wants to Play Riddler

With Suicide Squad set to begin filming next month, we have yet another casting rumor for the DC supervillain film. According to Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe, Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley may be playing the villain known as The Thinker.

This is a character that was previously reported to be in Suicide Squad, with Green Lantern‘s Geoffrey Rush allegedly passing on the role. However, Mayimbe says to take this info with a pinch of salt, since it is only a rumor at this point.

In other Suicide Squad news, Jai Courtney has once again discussed his role as Captain Boomerang. Speaking with IGN, the actor commented on the creation of his costume, saying that it is being finalized now. “I’ve had a few fittings, but the costume is in development as we speak. It’s not going to look like anything that’s been done before, and I think this whole world will look a lot different than anything else.” He goes on to rehash his praise for writer-director David Ayer and his dedication to the cast, and he adds, “We’ve been meeting to go over fighting and weapon work. Seeing the cast in Toronto in a couple of weeks will be really cool.”

In addition to his connections to the Suicide Squad in the comics, Captain Boomerang is also known as a frequent enemy of The Flash. With a Flash movie scheduled for a 2018 release, could Courtney reprise his role as Digger Harkness? “I’m not withholding anything, but that is a dialogue that hasn’t been opened yet.” Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters August 5th, 2016.

Finally, an actor has thrown his hat into the ring to play the iconic Batman villain Riddler. Speaking with MTV, The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has expressed interest in playing a superhero or a supervillain in a movie – specifically, The Riddler. “I would love to play a superhero in a movie. I would like to be a villain. And…I would really like to play The Riddler. I don’t feel they’re using the Riddler very much, are they?”

It is true that The Riddler hasn’t been used much on the big screen. He was portrayed by Jim Carrey in 1995’s Batman Forever, and Edward Nygma can currently be seen as a series regular on Fox’s Gotham, where he is played by Cory Michael Smith. With a new solo Batman movie in development, could The Riddler be the main villain? We’ll just have to wait and see.
