Henry Cavill Discusses Possibility of a Standalone MAN OF STEEL Sequel

After the release of Man of Steel in 2013, a sequel was immediately put into development. While most expected another standalone Superman movie, the film morphed into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, introducing many new DC heroes into this universe. Those hoping to see more of Superman’s solo work will be pleased to know that an actual Man of Steel 2 is in the works, and it is expected to release sometime between 2016 and 2020.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Superman actor Henry Cavill weighs in on his character’s cinematic future. He reaffirms that Batman v Superman is not Man of Steel 2, but it acts as an expansion of this world to include Batman and other Justice League members. Cavill’s Superman will also return in the two-part Justice League saga, but what about another solo Superman?

The actor remains optimistic about another standalone film, saying that there is potential for more stories following the expansion of the universe. “There’s plenty of time for individual Superman sequels. He’s a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can’t really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories.”

Hopefully, we’ll see more of Clark Kent’s development outside of the Justice League in the near future. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
