DC TV News Bits: ARROW Adds New Detective, GOTHAM Casts Selina Kyle’s Mother, LUCIFER Gets Full Season Order

Today’s DC TV news round-up begins with a new addition to Arrow‘s cast. According to Variety, The Walking Dead alum Juliana Harkavy has landed a recurring role in The CW series’ fifth season. She also had a role in NBC’s Constantine during its short run, making this her second trip to the DC Universe.
On Arrow, Harkavy plays Tina Boland, a “brash yet tactful” detective who is formerly of Central City. She takes issue with vigilantes such as the Green Arrow and his team. And considering Oliver’s return to a more brutal, even lethal, approach to his crusade, that will surely add fuel to the fire.
Boland will make her first appearance in the second half of Arrow season five. The exact episode is currently TBD.
Next, Fox’s Gotham is bringing Selina Kyle’s mother into the fold this season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banshee star Ivana Milicevic will play Maria Kyle, the “long-lost” mother of the future Catwoman, in a recurring role.
Maria is described as “…a tough-as-nails operator with an arsenal of street smarts and a world-class drifter who is able to hide her true self behind a variety of personas. Maria is a criminal through and through, and is willing to use anything and anyone to get what she wants. Her one weakness is Selina, the daughter she abandoned and the only person in the world she truly loves.”

It is unknown which episode will see Maria’s debut. Gotham is currently in its third season on Fox.
And finally, in other Fox DC TV news, this is sure to please fans of Lucifer. It has been announced (via THR) that the Vertigo adaptation has been ordered for an additional nine episodes, bringing its season two episode total to 22. The series has proven to be a surprisingly reliable performer, not just in ratings, but in DVR and other platforms too.
Fox Broadcasting president David Madden had this to say in a statement about the news. Lucifer continues to deliver, with great blasts of dark humor and ambitious storytelling. The show has turned out to be a true wicked pleasure, the perfect companion to Gotham, and we couldn’t be more pleased to order these nine additional episodes. … We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the season.”
