THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Wins Opening Weekend with $53 Million
The LEGO Batman Movie finally opened this weekend, and it faces stiff competition in the form of sequels Fifty Shades Darker and John Wick: Chapter 2. Now, the estimates are in. and the Dark Knight returns to the top of the box office. LEGO Batman has opened with about $53 million domestically, placing it at #1. It beats Fifty Shades‘ $46.6m intake. While this is a great figure, it is a little lower than the expected $60M+ debut. It’s also less than The LEGO Movie‘s $69M opening back in 2014, but that film opened with much less competition. Plus, bad weather on the East Coast could have played a factor. Overseas, LEGO Batman…

No, Perry White Won’t Appear in JUSTICE LEAGUE
Laurence Fishburne played Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first two installments of the DC Extended Universe. A lot of characters and actors from those movies will return in Justice League. However, don’t expect Perry to pop up again. In an interview with LA Times, Fishburne confirms that he won’t reprise his Perry White role for Justice League, citing a scheduling conflict. “They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to…

Review: THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (2017)
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham City, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. [Warner Bros.] Back in 2014, Warner Bros. released The LEGO Movie, which was a huge success, both critically and commercially. Thus, the studio began to develop several spin-offs and a sequel to expand this franchise. The…

FEATURE: Five DC Characters We Want to See in THE LEGO MOVIE SEQUEL
The LEGO Movie introduced characters from multiple intellectual properties, including DC Comics. Batman is, of course, the most noticeable addition, as he played a key supporting role and stars in spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie. The LEGO Movie also featured Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman and Flash in minor roles. With The LEGO Movie Sequel coming in 2019, it only makes sense to bring in other well-known characters, including those from the DC Universe. Part of the appeal of The LEGO Movie was seeing characters from multiple franchises interact in one film, and DC is one of Warner Bros.’ biggest franchise. So, it makes sense to continue…

FEATURE: Five More Theatrical DC Animated Movies We Want to See After LEGO BATMAN
Typically, DC Entertainment’s animated movies have been released direct-to-video, rather than in theaters. There are a couple exceptions, of course. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was released in theaters in 1993, while Batman: The Killing Joke and Return of the Caped Crusaders had limited theatrical runs last year. Now, this week, The LEGO Batman Movie is hitting theaters. The spin-off film is gaining rave reviews from critics, and it is tracking for a big box office opening. Hopefully, LEGO Batman‘s success will lead to more theatrically released animated films set in the DC Universe. Warner Bros. Animation has been beefing up its slate in recent years, tackling franchises such as…
