Warner Bros. has many, many movies based on DC Comics in development. Now, the studio has added another title to the slate.
A movie starring Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle, is in the works. Screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is working on the script, with Zev Foreman on board as an executive producer. A director isn’t attached yet.
In the comics, Reyes is the third person to take the Blue Beetle mantle, following Dan Garret and Ted Kord. He’s been a part of teams like Teen Titans and Young Justice. He has been in Smallville and various animated productions, but this will mark his first movie appearance.
Blue Beetle will mark the first DC movie to have a Latino lead. This marks the studio’s latest push towards diversity, joining multiple female-led movies and more in development.
Blue Beetle was rumored to appear in Greg Berlanti’s Booster Gold a few years ago, but we haven’t heard anything on that movie in a while. Well, it looks like Blue Beetle is still heading to the big screen.
Stay tuned for more as we have it.
