Sony’s Venom continues its global domination, as the movie has surpassed another key box office milestone.
Venom may be slowing down in North America, where it has grossed $211.7 million, but it is still going strong overseas, thanks to record-breaking numbers in China. Internationally, the film has grossed a whopping $610.8 million. This brings its worldwide total to $822.5 million.
These numbers make Venom the 14th highest grossing superhero movie of all time worldwide, and it is the fifth biggest film of 2018 so far. In fact, it has outgrossed all but two installments of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise. For all the talk of a Venom movie needing Spider-Man, it looks like the antihero is doing fine all by himself.
This success bodes incredible well for Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC). A few days ago, the studio set release dates for two untitled movies in 2020. Our best guesses for these dates are Morbius the Living Vampire and that Venom sequel.
But one thing is for sure: With just one movie, Sony is already starting to hold its own against the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Films’ universe. At the box office anyways.
Stay tuned for more updates as we have them.
